Visited on a Saturday afternoon, and there were lots of people, including children, enjoying their visit. It's worth a visit even though quite a small tower. It was originally the courthouse for Furness Abbey.
Lovely little place. Only open on special days. Very helpful staff with lots of information. Only a few rooms that can be accessed but very original. Parking is just on the street, so can be tricky.
Dalton Castle is a large Pele tower which was first built in the mid-14th century, as a defence against border raids and invasion from Scotland. Later the tower served as court house and prison. It was given to the National Trust in 1965. Dalton Castle is a Grade I listed building and Scheduled Ancient Monument.nPlenty of parking availablenShame it is only open occasionally as it would make a great visit
Very small but a lovely little stop off for a look around. Free entry and parking lots available dotted up and down the road National trust run and the guides were really welcoming and told us lots about the place. Only open weekends in the summer and closed the rest of the time so lucky to have been able to visit really. Small gift shop, no other amenities and one way system includes a 800+? Year old spiral staircase so not suitable for wheelchairs and prams but if like us you're prepared to carry small ones it's fine! Lots of history, activities and artifacts! Strong links to Furness Abbey so lovely to tie in together being so close in distance!
This is another super quirky National Trust compared to stately homes just love the variety you get. Great tour. Nice to see a guide book. Friendly and welcoming guides. Don't miss the woodern carved chairs of the animals in various states of punishment sheep in stocks. Good amount of information boards. Not open every day so be sure to check app/website before visiting. Would recommend a visit.
