Post matinee theatre meal, we each had a Delicious Tagine with plain couscous at a very reasonable price. Beautiful authentic decor and genuinely friendly and courteous staff. Surprisingly quiet for 5:30pm. Didn’t book in advance but plenty of tables free. The fresh Moroccan Mint tea was divine. Definitely going back the next time I’m in the West End.
Thought I'd already written a review but seems it slipped my mind which just gives me the chance to do one now instead. I brought a good friend here who had never had North African cuisine before. To watch her being blown away by the flavour explosions of the wonderful food prepared by the head chef this evening will be one of the memories I will cherish for years to come. We each had a tagine I had lamb and my friend opted for chicken and the flavours were so beautifully balanced and delicate. Every bite is a little different from the one before and the meat is so unbelievably tender and succulent - the chicken falls of the bone just by looking at it. Tagine is a favourite dish of mine and Souk just take it to the next level. We had Labneh Z'aatar with some pitta for starter and the lovely tanginess of the yoghurt balanced with the fresh mint and Z'aatar olive oil makes this for a light starter allowing you to enjoy the food without getting too full for the main course. As dessert, we were treated to a small sample of their newest additions to the menu - Kanafeh cheese and Semoulina. This was my first time trying these as well and I swear I've never had anything so light, fluffy and absolutely scrumptious. Again, the flavours were rich but delicate and paired with the always delicious Moroccan mint tea we felt like we were in heaven and both felt the need to close our eyes to just savour the tastes of each bite. After this, I convinced my friend to try proper Turkish delight and baklava as again she had never tried beyond the chocolate bar and M&S versions. Once again, the transformation on my friend's face as she discovered how delicious each of these are when done right. The service was a chapter onto itself. Friendly, welcoming and attentive without hovering as you often find in other places. We ended up spending 3 hours or so and didn't even notice because it was cosy and relaxed. The atmosphere and decor of the restaurant feels authentic too and you almost forget you're in London and haven't been transported to Morocco. You, dear reader, may think I'm gushing which I am, yes but I cannot fully express how much I enjoy coming to Souk and how happy I have rediscovered it after having "lost" it during the pandemic. And bringing a friend to try this amazing place and wonderful cuisine for the first time has been an absolute pleasure and joy. I will most certainly be back and bringing as many of my friends as I possibly can - and I can only recommend you do the same! And if you're trying this for the first time, I truly hope you will enjoy this beginning of a flavourful and delectable journey, you are embarking on... Update: tried the chocolate cake... I'm in heaven! So so good.
Forgive my late post but I’ll come straight to the point. It felt like I’m in a Moroccan restaurant in Morocco from the moment I stepped in this ornamental and beautiful hidden gem situated adjacent to Shaftesbury Avenue. Honestly, I’m not gonna lie, even some of those small rooms in this restaurant with tables and seating arrangements felt like in Marrakesh when I went during my holiday years ago. I honestly can’t think of any other Moroccan restaurant anywhere in London when I think of Souk. Please do come here with your friends, family even dates. They’ll enjoy your company and appreciate your choice of place. Please go and walk in and see it yourself. In terms of food and beverages, I would recommend try the Moroccan mint tea, the desserts and of course the couscous and tagine. Vegetarian options: Morocco is a purely anti veg country just kidding. What’s with these vegetarian options google maps?!
Souk: Where Authenticity Meets Excellence Souk is a haven of warmth and flavor and provided an unforgettable dining experience. From our cozy private seating to the tantalizing dishes, every moment was infused with authenticity and delight. We savored the creamy yogurt and pita bread, indulged in the succulent grilled chicken, and ended on a sweet note with the heavenly baklava. Shukraan to the chef for crafting such culinary masterpieces. Walid, our attentive waiter, elevated our experience with impeccable service, making us feel truly welcome and cared for throughout the evening. The opportunity to try traditional fez hats added a playful touch, while the Arabian music set the mood for a memorable dining experience! We would rate a genuine five-star experience and would highly recommend to anyone looking for a more private and hospitable setting! Shukraan for a truly unforgettable day!
Highly recommend this gem of a restaurant in Covent Garden The food was absolutely delicious and the private tables decked out in authentic Moroccan style are a delight! Tony and Walid offer outstanding customer service and the shisha, tea and sweet treats concluded a phenomenal dining experience Vegetarian options: The root vegetable tagine and cous cous bowls are delicious Ask for the spicy harissa paste too!
Came for lunch at this place in September for the first time. After lunch I went with my friend for an ice cream and came back for baklava and shisha. I brought my husband for his birthday in December. Came back with other friends in January. Do you see where I'm going? When you come back so often there can only be good things to say about a restaurant. Food is SO GOOD, staff are super friendly, and the restaurant itself feels so authentic!
A jewel of a restaurant right in the heart of the theatre district. Serving real Moroccan food at sensible prices. We had the Marrakesh feast set menu, loads of super tasty food, I highly recommend the lamb tagine, bottle of wine and a piña colada with service charge came to £143.Food: 5/5
The star of the show here is the venue itself, it’s super cosy with a fantastic book right at the back! The food is varied and there’s options for meat eaters and vegans which makes it a nice place to go for all types of people at the same time. Staff really friendly and welcoming. Food has good flavours and generally seemed a decent quality for the price, I’ll be back for sure.
Delicious Moroccan food and lovely service. Visited for a catch up with friends and our group shared the Marrakesh and Casablanca feasts which we all really loved. Our service was kind and attentive, offering excellent recommendations. I am not sure why others have given low reviews but we loved our experience and would certainly come back.
Really lovely restaurant and great customer service. Our waiter kindly double checked the spice level with us and offered for the kitchen to remake if it was too hot. It ended up being perfect!Food: 5/5
