Comlongon Castle

About

Comlongon Castle is the nearest castle wedding venue to Gretna Green, Scotland. The castle was originally built in 1451 and is now fully restored as a Baronial Hotel and and Scotland's premier wedding venue.

Story

Comlongon Castle is a unique hotel. We specialise in providing relaxed getaways (Guests often describe being here for a day as worth two at a spa!)
We cater for all groups who want to celebrate any special occasion, concentrating on various celebrations from weddings, parties; indeed any family gathering. We only have 15 rooms, so it is quite easy to take over the whole building on an exclusive basis. We are a private hotel, not open to the public, so can be pretty certain that once you book rooms you will have the place to yourself.
Whatever you are looking for we can provide. What does set us apart from others is the dedicated staff we have gathered over the years (All local and many here for well over 15 years) An average 0f 92% 5 Star tripadvisor reviews will attest to this.

The setting of Comlongon Castle is very nice and is in a beautiful part of the country. The staff in the hotel were very friendly and helpful. The room at first look was fine however the decor was a bit tired. The Jacuzzi Bath had not been properly cleaned and the dial to control the flow had rusted off. The food was very dissapointing. We were given an overnight stay as a gift. There was a set menu as part of the overnight stay. We decided to had to pay an additional £5.00 to offer more choice on the menu. The presentation and taste of the food left a lot to be desired. Definitely not worth the cost of even a reduced rate overnight stay.

An amazing setting and the room was magnificent. Would have been 5 stars if not for the let down in the restaurant. We had booked this as a weekend get-a-way. Bed, Breakfast and Evening meal. After booking we started reading other reviews and the same thing was said..a lot! Nice location, shame about the food. Our thoughts were.. they can't still be getting it wrong. They are! Took 90 minutes for us to get starters, and the story was similar around the tables. When the food came, it was not done to the standard you expect of this kind of establishment. The waitress, who was only 14 handled it with professionalism beyond her years! She was amazing and should be commended on that. Even when we asked for the number of a local takeaway!! The blame for all of this ... a rota mishap. Not enough people in the kitchen. That explains the wait, but not the quality. So, overall, location is amazing, the waiting staff were brilliant, patient and professional, even under pressure. But as others have reviewed, the dining experience not so good.

Have stayed at the castle now several time and had our wedding here in 2014. As a venue for weddings it is secound to none. Unfortunately as a hotel not so good the high price of the rooms is not justified although thoughtfully decorated they are in need of some renovations and are more suited to bed and breakfast price points not five star hotel price points. Breakfast was disappointing with the service we found somewhat lacking. We will visit again as it holds a special place in our hearts as we had our wedding and daughters blessing here but would probably stay in the premier inn in Dumfries as we found this better value for money.

I love this place as we got engaged there and married plus our daughter got christened here recently. However it has gone downhill. Evening meal was disappointing for how much it cost. Breakfast was not enjoyable hardly anything it had to offer on the menu was there. The waitress couldn't have cared a less and we couldn't get hold of her to ask for more butter so had to pinch some off other tables! Our friends waited over an hour to eat as they'd lost their order, then finally got their breakfasts at 10 and told to be out their room by 1030! Kim was brilliant in organising the christening but since 4 years ago we didn't feel as welcome by staff or as homely. The room was tired and the mattress felt like it was there since the place was built, soooooo uncomfortable! For the money I'd rather sadly now stay somewhere else which breaks my heart. The grounds are still lovely and I'd still like to own it if I won the lottery!
