This hotel is in a lovely location between Gretna and Dumfries and is currently undergoing refurbishment. It could be fabulous once completed. Our room had already been refurbished and was well equipped with a very comfortable bed. The food was really nice and excellent value for money - you cannot go wrong eating in the restaurant. Best of all were THE STAFF, all of whom were extremely helpful, friendly and a credit to the hospitality industry. Would we stay again? Definitely

Stayed for 2 nights. Lovely building, lots of renovation going on, will be very stylish when complete. Our room was cosy with new furnishings and decor. Food was good and nicely presented. Staff are friendly and helpful. Overall a good place to stay.

We had a wonderful time during our stay in February 2018. The work being carried out at the hotel will be fantastic once it has been finished. The reception we received on arrival was so friendly and we sneaked a look at the function room. The gallery window at the end is such a wonderful feature. I would certainly recommend it for weddings. I liked the intimate feel of it. The evening staff in the restaurant were totally wonderful and the food and menu choice was great. We even really liked the house white! The new rooms were great and in the absence of a lounge, as it is presently the restaurant, we took advantage of the games available on the television in our room! I look forward to visiting again once it’s all complete. The whole ambience of the hotel was friendly and personal and the views were incredible over the Solway. The driveway up I’m sure is stunning in summer and the glass veranda gives it a modern feel without spoiling the quaintness of the old building. It is a little gem that I’m so pleased to have visited. A beautiful venue whether stopping over for a romantic break, a cosy yet enjoyable evening meal or planning your wedding day. Highly recommended.

Had an afternoon tea today 17-0318, first impressions were not good, hardly got a smile from the woman who served us today, we asked if we could sit at a table that was set apart from the others but were told no, no explanation just no. We were sat extremely close to other customers and their was no privacy as we could hear quite clearly each other’s conversations. We were served our tea and had half an hour before we got our food, we said to the woman serving that we would need one of the sandwiches to be vegetarian and she look at us puzzled so we said no meat or eggs, she said ok and we were served egg and some sort of cheese mix sandwiches for the vegetarian so she had two out of the four sandwiches the sanwiches turned out to be inedible as the outside of the bread was hard as though they had been sitting out for a while, the scones were very good. We were not offered a top up of tea which we had about finished while we waited half an hour for our food. This was a first visit to this hotel and we were looking forward to it but not a friendly welcome or very nice atmosphere or food so probably won’t be back which is a shame as a bit of customer care would have helped. We didn’t complain at the time as said previously we were all sat very close together and didn’t want others hearing us.

Recently refurbished and expanded. Absolutely amazing place, combining a little bit of the old style(Lounge area) with stunning(Function suite!) & modern interiors.
