My husband and I popped in for a midweek meal on our first visit, and it definitely won't be our last. We loved everything about this place.nnIt was nice and quiet during our visit, so we chose to sit in the bar area with the dog. It had a lovely, cosy atmosphere, complete with some family games, and the bar staff were super friendly and welcoming.nnThe food was amazing! Probably the best steak and ale pie with puff pastry I've ever had, and the chips were perfect too. My husband had the mixed grill and thoroughly enjoyed it.nnWhat impressed us most, though, was their honesty. We had already paid and were just about to leave when the barman checked our bill, spotted that we'd been overcharged, and immediately apologised and refunded the overcharge. I'm not sure every place would have done that, so we were genuinely impressed.nnFantastic food, excellent service, and honest staff; we'll definitely be back.
I have passed the Cock O' Budworth many times through my years. At the moment i pass at least 8 times a week.nI booked a table for me and my friend.nWe arrived and parked in a good car park. Once it goes dark, the car park isn't well lit.nWe approached the front door of the pub via a large outside seating area.nTo enter the pub, you have walk up steps.nWe were greeted by Andrew.nThe staff were very friendly and polite and welcoming.nWe had two courses.nStarters - Soup. The soup came with French bread cob and dish of butter.nThe soup was excellent,, very tasty.nMarks out of 10 was 9.5.nStarter - Two Hash Brown's with poached egg on top with a sauce.nIt's was excellent. Marks out of 10 would be 10..nMeal 1 - Meatball with pasta. My friend said it was a little spicy. Taste good and filling. Marks out of 10 would be 8.nMeal 2 - Cheese and Onion and potato pie with chips and Greens think it was kale. The pie was AMAZING,, marks out of 10 for the pie would be 10.nMarks out of 10 for the meal would be 9. I have marked 9 because the chunky chips weren't exactly to my liking. The chips were warm and nicely cooked, but just a little bit to crispy for my liking. A little lighter / not crispy for me.nFound out that the pie was homemade,, the chef is amazing.nSadly i only took pictures of the main meals.
Upon our arrival, we were greeted by a woman who greeted us saying “no dogs, no dogs, no dogs”, in front of other customers, which was a little embarrassing to say the least. We explained we booked in advance and stated on the booking that we had a dog, not to mention it said on Google that the pub was very much family and dog-friendly, and there were other people in the restaurant with dogs, some of whom were situated on the seats at table level, not on the floor. Nevertheless, we were eventually directed to the bar area where we were seated away from other dining guests, despite other customers with their dogs on the seats in other parts of the restaurant, not in the bar area, but hey.nnWe ordered our drinks, which came with a filthy glass, where I could easily scratch off the film of dirt with my fingernail. I pointed this out to the waitress who apologised, but ended up swapping it with another glass that was just as dirty. Our son asked for a milk, only to be told they don’t serve it, nor do they do straws. However, after negotiations we eventually got a glass of milk.nnNext was the food, and being autistic and having ADHD, my appetite is not great, so I generally order from the kids’ menu as I do anywhere we go, without issue. But there was an age restriction on this menu for up to 12 years only. Feeling overwhelmed up to this point and now disappointed that I’d made a huge mistake in choosing to dine with my family here for Father’s Day, I was about to ask for the bill so we could leave and go elsewhere when the waiter said he would try to find a way to put the order through from the kids’ menu.nnThe food was lovely, no problem there. Just a shame the rest of the experience wasn’t as enjoyable.nnThis was our first visit, but unfortunately we won’t be dining here again.
Large, historic Joseph Holts pub serving food and a range of Holts beers. Food looked good and the beer was cold. Lovely outside area out back and plenty of seating out front too. Fella behind the bar was friendly. Large carpark so may offer overnights if spending money in the pub. Ring ahead . Cheers..
Visited today and it was nice, acesability was a bit of a hassle with the entrance being quite slippery in the rain. Once inside we were seated at the back of the restaurant area the furniture was quite old and uncomfortable to be honest, once we ordered drinks arrived quickly and food around 25mins after ordering. The food itself was very nice, although the mixed grill had no egg or peas which I thought was pretty standard part of it. The chips were lovely and Kids portion size was good too.
