Large private collection of WW2 vehicles and equipment; militaria, clothing & souvenir shop & cafeteria
Showing the largest collection of World War Two vehicles and artefacts in the South West, Cobbaton Combat Collection houses over 60 mainly British vehicles and artillery pieces. Among these tanks, trucks, armoured cars and anti-aircraft guns in the two large hangars are thousands of smaller exhibits; hundreds of weapons, a collection of military radios and a several bicycles. The third building has displays of civilian life during the 1939/1945 period, also ARP (Air Raid Precautions), Home Guard and Red Cross. This is one man’s private collection that has grown over the years – finally opening to the public as a museum in 1981 – and still being added to today. It shows the vehicles complete in their battle-ready state, some of them the result of painstaking restoration.
The collection’s shop stocks militaria, collectors’ items, clothing and headgear, de-activated guns, inert ammunition, toys and souvenirs. We also offer a mail-order service through our website www.cobbatoncombat.co.uk The seasonally staffed NAAFI wagon serves hot and cold drinks and snacks, and there is a large free car park and picnic area.
The collection is all under cover, and is open from 10 am to 5 pm, seven days a week through July and August, then closed on Saturdays during April, May, June, September and October. Please phone for winter opening hours.
