Best small museum around, definitely worth a visit! Enthusiastic volunteers, the chance to look and handle things, cranking the air raid siren was a treat, and the little quiz was a brilliant idea because it encouraged me to climb into the information. Proper little Aladdin's Cave, hidden underneath the school, which is why it was built there in the first place!
Visited this week with a young family, excellent museum with lots to see and do. Staff were extremely friendly, knowledgeable and made sure my young children felt very welcomed. Highly recommend! Good work volunteers keep up the good work! Look forward to the next tunnel opening in the future.
Really nice place to visit for an hour or two. Staff very friendly and you can get a cuppa and cake as well. Good for kids who are slightly older, as there is a lot of reading to do. Very interestingVisited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
So worth a visit!! The tunnel is crammed full with exhibits and information. If you can definitely visit and support this museum to help it expand like we were told they are interested in doing!! Every single volunteer was very friendly. Took us around 30 minutes to get around, the quiz was a really nice additionVisited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Brilliant place to visit and they have just opened it! I can't wait for more to come, the place is extremely interesting. After a nice walk underground we had very tasty cakes and teas, read some old newspapers and chatted. Staff is really polite and well informed about the place. I will come back with my friends and family Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
During WW2 Ipswich Docks received heavy bombing, destroying much of the local area & necessitating the building of civilion Air Raid shelters. The Clifford Road Tunnels have the immediate appearance of a tube station because that was the period experience in tunnelling technology. On-site can be seen a period tube carriage, some WW2 Army vehicles, as well as a lot of colourful packaging for everyday household items of the period. It's a true wealth of history for anyone interested in the local history of the town & life in wartime England in general. As with the Ipswich Museum, Clifford Road Tunnels Heritage Site is something of a secret because it receives no promotion from the local authority.
Great museum to go around. The workers are all helpful and friendly.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Friendly volunteer staff and the displays were excellent and very informative. A real hidden gem of a site nicely restored. proper air raid shelter and tunnels. Loved the 1938 stock Underground train interior. Excellently done and will certainly recommend and return!Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
