Cinnamon Spice is a small (and, given the modern trend for micro-pubs, perhaps we might be justified in calling Cinnamon Spice a micro-) restaurant, providing sustenance and service to residents of, and visitors to, the seaside village of Silverdale and its environs. Living in Kendal as I do, Silverdale is not necessarily the most obvious, or convenient, of destinations for a night out. However, the combination of Cinnamon Spice, the Woodlands Hotel, the newly-refurbished Royal Hotel, plus the new tenants in the Silverdale Hotel, give you a lot more scope for finding something to your taste than many similar small villages. The current staff in the restaurant seem to be the present generation of a family (or at least a family group) of Indian Restaurateurs from the Keighley area. In my estimation, they are brilliant at what they do. On one occasion, about a year ago (at the time of the Woodlands Beer Festival) we went in to book a table for later that evening. The guy behind the counter took the booking, said he would see us later, and as we departed said: 'And we'll have the aloo channa ready'. I had not immediately recognised him, but when I looked again it was one of the lads (albeit not so much a lad now, some years having passed) who used to work at the British Raj in Kendal. He remembered me from years back, and remembered that my favourite side dish was aloo channa. I was very impressed with his memory! Anyway, suffice to say that the staff are friendly, chatty, informative about the food, and often run off their feet because it's only a small place. The menu is good, with all of the dishes being available as a mixed vegetable alternative, which is very handy as my wife and I are vegetarian. While I cannot claim to have visited every Indian Restaurant in the country, I have been to a good few over the years, and I would be hard-pressed to separate Cinnamon Spice out of my top three favourites. A massive benefit in its favour is, of course, the fact that you can bring your own alcohol. If you arrive at the restaurant without, there is a Co-Op next door, with a very respectable stock of wine and beer, and also a cash-point - very useful, as Cinnamon Spice is a cash-only restaurant. All-in-all, five stars, ten out of ten.
