Was recommended here by a friend so popped in after work. The proprietor recommended the ribs and I chose the dumplings. Simply delicious! So refreshing to find a non pretentious no fuss food outlet in Winchester. I will be back to try the red curry prawns! So pleased I visited :0
UPDATE: I’ve been back several times since I wrote the original review — both for take away and dining in — and unfortunately the quality has declined significantly. I learned that there are new owners so this might explain why. They don’t understand English very well which makes ordering difficult and they didn’t understand proper Vietnamese pronunciation of some dishes so I presume they’re not Vietnamese. The store is the same as before. They don’t have the menus on the tables anymore and many entrees on the board are crossed out so I’m not exactly sure what they offer anymore. They have smaller paper menus on their counter but they don’t make it obvious. Their Pho broth is bland and doesn’t taste anything like it should. Tastes more like water with onions. The chicken now isn’t edible, has a lot of gristle, little meat and tastes odd. The Pho had more bean sprouts and onions than rice noodles. Shame because it used to be so good. Even their summer rolls and peanut dipping sauce that used to be great now taste stale, are missing ingredients and are served with liquid fish sauce which is so strange. I can’t recommend the restaurant anymore based on the quality of food and unfriendly service but the store is still worth a visit. ORIGINAL REVIEW: This reminds me of an Asian market in Houston, Texas that has a small store and casual restaurant in one. It was a local favorite there and this should be a local favorite in Winchester. They have a good variety of products despite the small size of the store and at good value. I got a huge bag of glutenous rice for half what I’d pay in a supermarket. It’s in a convenient location by the Brooks Shopping centre and is open until 8:00 p.m. I just moved to the area and have already been there twice. Their restaurant is the real deal. They make each dish fresh and have options for non-meat eaters. The portion of the Pho is huge. Such a great deal for the price too. I get the Pho Ga chicken and the chicken is the most tender I’ve ever had anywhere. It does come with fat and skin but it’s easy to remove and adds flavor to the dish. It’s so tender that I can cut off a piece with my chopsticks. Once you’re done eating you go to the store cashier up front and tell them what you ate so you can pay your bill. They even provide to-go containers if you cannot finish since the portions are big. I’m glad I found this gem and hope to try more dishes while living in Winchester. Great food at a great price.
if you're gonna eat their noodles bring a friend ! there's so many !! taste Amazing they deserve all the love they get
Great selection of foods. For me I don't know a place that has more spicy noodles to buy. And the restaurant is great also with drinks you also won't find anywhere else and bubble tea. Also the vegetarian selection is way better than it used to be. People there are super nice also
The restaurant may not look like much but they take real care and the food is really fresh. The tom yum kun was really vibrant in flavour. Vegetable spring rolls seemingly rolled there and then. A delightful find. I'll be going again. If you're vegetarian, the menu doesn't look great, but just ask. They're very accommodating.
Wanted to love the cafe.... didn’t love love it. Skip the mains. Devour the starters. Vegetarian spring rolls to start were absolutely divine. Crispy yummy fresh handmade goodness. 5/5 Vietnamese ribs for main. Hard, chewy, no meat on the bones. They should be melting delicious goodness with beautifully rendered fat and a tasty marinade. Unfortunately none of the above. Good steamed rice though. 1/5
We’ve been visiting this shop for over 3 years and always enjoyed the food. Looking forward to going to eat there again but the recent reviews are not good. I bought a bag of mung beans last Thursday 18th Feb, hoping to grow some sprouts, they’ve been soaking for 3 days now and not sprouting? This usually takes about 24hrs. I will be returning them, they must be very old stock? It’s not the money, it’s the principle.
Very nice store, since I moved to England I find it hard to find the proper Asian food, drinks, ingredients etc. So I was very happy to find this nearby! Very tidy and clean shop, can’t wait to come shop here in my next drive to Winchester.
I am obsessed with pho since I went to Vietnam. Now that I am in Winchester I am so happy I get to find Vietnamese food in China town
The food seemed to reflect the surroundings - no frills. I had the beef dish no.3. Some simple improvements could make this a great place to eat. 1. Take the fat off the beef. 2. More veg. 3. Remove the hard pieces of spice. And warm the place up a bit and smile!
