We had a lovely evening at Browns in Sheffield! The restaurant is big, with a lot of seating area and a bar. It’s located in the middle of the city centre, so it’s very easy to access. The staff were all helpful and nice and we got offered water as soon as we reached the table. Claudia was our main server and she was very friendly. We then ordered drinks; we went for cocktails and the salted caramel martini was one of the best drinks I’ve had in a while! The food was so nice as well; the scallops were soft and melting in the mouth, and my fish main was delicious.
A very pleasant afternoon tea. We made a reservation online for 2 people at 3.30pm, but called ahead and asked to change to 3pm which was accommodated by staff without issue. When we arrived, the vegetarian of our group had her requests catered for no problem. The staff were attentive and swift, refilling the teapot and bringing out bits and bobs on request. The venue was fairly empty so unsurprisingly quiet; it is always a pleasure to find an oasis of calm and peace in a city. We were extremely happy with the afternoon tea itself and were so full up we could not finish it all - at only £20 a head + service which we were happy to pay. Toilets looked stylish and were clean as you like with some nice soaps. Can't fault it!
We had brunch at Brown's before my wedding ceremony, and was absolutely WOWED by their AMAZING service and food. Brown's effortlessly handled our group of 40 people- everyone's orders were correct, and the food came out fresh and delicious! They were also very accommodating with giving us a video tour of the space and setting out our place cards. They did a FANTASTIC job, I would recommend them to everyone again and again. Thank you for helping make our wedding day so special!!
First time here and booked online on the day. It was a Saturday so could only get a table at 9pm. Greeted by friendly staff and place was packed, with a note on the door that they were taking bookings only tonight due to unforseen circumstances. I live in Guernsey so I am used to eating out a lot. The service here was very slow this evening as it took 1 hr to get starters after complaining. I could understand if it was 7:30 but at 9pm it should be quieter and quicker. In fairness we were offered a free dessert/ drinks and the waitress apologised and when i asked if they were short staffed, got advised one chef had walked out. It wasn't the fault of the other staff and i understand they would have been all under pressure. However, why continue taking full bookings to capacity if you can't handle it at 9pm? If we were told, I'd have gone somewhere else. Food was expensive and very average in my opinion. I've honestly never had scallops this small... 4 the size of a 2 pence piece for £11...very poor value and took me literally 2 mins to eat even if i ate slow as hell. The chicken and bacon avocado salad was good. Ordered truffle parmesan chips... Don't waste your money for £4.50. Standard uninspired looking oven chips that do rare and smell of truffle with a few strands if parmesan....not triple cooked or home cut. To be honest i did not tip and did 2 of us, 2 courses, water and 1 non alcoholic perroni and a g&t... Worst £80 I've spent and i eat out 3 to 4 times a week. The menu is nice but over priced for meoacre food and on this night slow service.
Wait staff were very good, diligent, couldnt do enough for you. Asked for two burgers medium rare with some extras, wasnt charged for the extras but was denied the cooking preference and had to eat a well done burger later found out this was due to cooking standards . Decor is awesome, art deco style with a grand piano center peice. Good date spot.
Unfortunately we did not have a great experience here for our work Christmas afternoon tea. If I could possibly rate it 0 stars, I would. We had around 15 of us which included pescatarian, vegetarian and gluten free. All our afternoon teas were mixed up, though we had booked and been very specific of the dietary requirements. When asked if one of the desserts had gelatine in, we were told they think they had and they’d ask the kitchen but never came back. We spoke to a manager, two in fact which apologised. Though this was not great. The vegetarians had fish in their afternoon teas, clotted cream was very much out of date and could smell that from miles away, brownie was burnt also. We went to have a nice meal with work colleagues and unfortunately we spent most of the time making sure our food was correct. Not sure what the food rating is here but allergy awareness needs to be looked at. Would highly not recommend and would never go back. Vegetarian options: The vegetarian options had fish in them. Parking: No parking so had to park far away. Dietary restrictions: No concern for allergies or dietary requirements.
Interesting one this as the place is lovely with some great food, although my wife's food was cold. We came in here as Bills had closed, and ordered breakfast. On seating, we were asked if we'd like water. We said yes, but expected some table water like you'd get everywhere else. They brought a bottle of water that added £5 to our bill. I had the eggs Benedict and my wife had a spicy egg thing, the name of which I can't remember. It had clearly been grilled as the top was piping hot, but the underneath was cold. My Benedict was very nice. The bill came, and they'd already added on 10% for service, which I thought was rubbish. The ambience and service was great, although we were kept waiting somewhat to order the restaurant was pretty quiet when we went in. In all, it's not an experience of want to repeat and I won't be back. Just seems like they were scraping us for our money by any means possible, and the food was not up to the standard I thought. "All fur coat and no knickers"was my wife's comment, and I couldn't agree more!
Had chosen this place for a family celebration. Sadly a very disappointing experience, especially as it was our first visit. The food was a complete and utter let down. Dry fillet steak, cold rib eye and underwhelming chicken. Doubt we'll bother to revisit given the bill had already been loaded with a service charge, which made it feel extortionate for what we received.
Unfortunately this isn't a good review. 19/11/21 We booked a table for 6 at 3pm waiter told us he was going to set the table and would be 5 mins..... 45 mins later they finally got us seated! Asked how long the food would be and was reassured it would be between 20 -25 mins.... another 55 mins later it arrived... only to come out cold dry and un edible!! Absolutely shocking REALLY DISSAPOINTED!!! Only good thing is they have offered to wipe the bill...
We come to Brown's every Christmas & usually in January/February & we always have a wonderful time. The food was delicious as always & the service amazing especially given the time of year & how busy you all are. We particularly liked how the place was not uncomfortably overcrowded due to the seating protocol for drinkers.
