Recently moved to the area and wanted a fancy meal, thought the Cast Iron grill would of been good given it’s menu; marketing and the fact it’s in a Marriott hotel. The food was horrendous. Starters where extremely poor and looked/tasted cheap, the steaks for the mains where more like frying steaks - super thin and over cooked, I asked for medium but got very well done. We also ordered some roast vegetable as a side, but what arrived looked so designating that I asked them to remove it. Instead of fresh roast vegetables we were given something that looked like shredded stir fry with yogurt on top - it looked disgusting! I’ve added a picture to show. We were so upset with the meal we didn’t stay for dessert. The service on the other hand was great - lovely and attentive staff! They removed the veg off the bill and gave us 20% discount as we were so unhappy - however the bill still totalled over £80 , so it’s not a cheap meal to be unhappy with.
Visited for our 3rd time for the £25 Sunday lunch , first 2 times fantastic 10/10 all round food and service. 3rd time we got charged £30 For the Sunday lunch , when we questioned it we got told it was for the pianist . So a table of 6 all paid £5 each to listen to the pianist who had been there every other time we had been . It’s the principal of the matter really not the £5 extra that has put us off . The waitress informed us there was 200 sittings on that Sunday all paying an extra £5 …… that pianists must be rolling in it . Apparently we should have been informed of the extra charge when arriving but then don't advertise the Sunday lunch for £25 . It should be £30 ………
Very disappointed as I was looking ward in having a nice meal at Marriott, as I have been there before. The main course was not hot, very luke warm .
Very poor quality food. Rib eye was like a frying steak. Pork tomahawk was like a cheap pork chop. Very disappointing. Will not be going back even though we live around the corner
Just had a delicious meal here, we were served by Alison who was lovely! The only complaint would be that a service charge of 12.5% was automatically added to the bill not giving us a chance to leave a her a tip for the great service. Not put us off though and will be returning for further meals.
It is a shame that my experience was so poor at Grill in the park as it is well decorated and situated in such a nice environment. Decor was nice, and some of the dishes were honestly tasty, but consistency was an issue. This patten also existed in the service from staff. As a coloured individual an unwelcoming presence was felt upon arrival. This was felt from not only some guests but also the working staff themselves. While some staff were kind and demonstrated good service, Heidi who was my server was absolutely appalling. Her attitude lacked courtesy and acted passive aggressive making my family feel uncomfortable and insulted. Considering the restruant's location of being in a marriot hotel was surprising. After this service experience I cant say I'd reccomend this restruant to any of my peers unless they have the right complextion.
A really nice place to eat. Good friendly staff and good food.
Staying at the hotel at the moment , Had a set menu boxing night and can say it was pretty good and will eat here again whilst I’m here Yes its a bit expensive for some items , but it’s a upmarket hotel not a greasy spoon cafe , so expect to pay that extra bit
Went for carvery. Starters lovely 5 star desserts good 4 star. Main course poor food not warm enough. Will not go again overpriced!
I would give 0/5 if it was possible. Horrible experience from start to finish. We were informed it was a carvery on Sunday’s then seated with no explanation of how the carvey service operated or anything. I later overheard the other waitresses asking customers if they wanted to see a wine list and alternative menus but we did not receive the same. After seated for a little while, a waitress asked if we wanted drinks from a small menu already on the table. These were quite limited but nevertheless I ordered a mocktail. This was ‘out of stock’ confusingly as they make the drinks at the bar next store which should be stocked for the hotel guests. The waitress seemed to have a slight attitude about ordering drinks which made me feel inclined to order a different drink I didn’t not really want. I therefore ordered another drink to which a different waitress gave the wrong drink - one I didn’t order. She had to be informed of this and went back again. We then had to ask if we could go to the carvey as we did not know what was going on. Found out the carvey has starters, mains and desserts. Items within all three are very hit and miss. Some items are delicious such as the carrots and chocolate mouse. But some were a big miss such as the roast potatoes which were drier than the soil they would have been grown on. I have ate at many restaurants with a similar price point and never has the food been so hit and miss. For the price point this is very disappointing. Lastly, before leaving we found wet/fresh chewing gum stuck onto the bottom of my handbag which has been under the table. Please note: this handbag had been in a gym locker previously which was CLEAN. We alerted the waitresses who were adamant it was not from the restaurant but nevertheless cleaned the handbag. The sticky reside of this disgusting gum had gotten on some of our clothes. When asking for assistance/wipes THE WAITRESS TOLD US TO DIP TISSUE ON THE TABLE INTO THE GLASS OF WATER TO CLEAN IT OFF, STATING THEY DID NOT HAVE ANYTHING TO CLEAN IT WITH. I think this staff member needs to be retrained. Thankfully, another random waitress gave us wet wipes. This was a terrible experience, I sincerely hope we were an isolated case for the sake of other customers.
