Every visit to my favorite restaurant in the plaza turns into a delightful culinary journey, and it's impossible not to rave about the two dishes that have stolen my heart: the Malaysian Curry Pork Cartilage Rice and the Ice Milk Tea. Starting with the Ice Milk Tea, it's a masterpiece of balance and flavor. The tea aroma is intoxicating, perfectly sweetened, and rich in taste. It's one of those rare finds where you don't need to request less ice because it's just perfect as served. Highly recommend giving this a try - it's a refreshing companion that elevates the meal. Now, the Malaysian Curry Pork Cartilage Rice deserves its own spotlight. It's a dish that masterfully balances flavors without being overly spicy, making it accessible to everyone. The pork cartilage is tender to the point of melting in your mouth, a testament to the care and precision in its preparation. While these two are my go-to choices, the menu is full of other incredible dishes that are equally deserving of praise.
The cafe was quite packed as my family and I went around 11am. Luckily, at that moment, there was a table available for us so we didn't have to wait. One of the waiters wanted to take our order after we looked at the menu for about 5 minutes but we weren't ready yet. When we called over the same waiter a couple of minutes later to take our order, she exaggeratedly said, "It's been half an hour". Later, we noticed she speaks to customers with an attitude so we avoided speaking to her at all costs. On the bright side, we did not have this experience with the other waiters. One of the dishes we ordered was the Hainanese Chicken Rice. This dish is special because this cafe is the only cafe my family has been to that removes all the bones from the chicken. Also, the texture of the chicken is always just right. I have never tasted it overcooked before. In my opinion, the price matches the quality of the dish.
It's a typical HK cafe located in New Kennedy Square. The parking lot is massive. There's not a lot of seats inside. I was deciding between hainanese chicken rice and a malaysian curry dish. Ultimately, the tv screen on the wall swayed me to the curry rice. Malaysian curry chicken steak w/ rice: The curry was tasty and the chicken was tender. I do wish they gave me a bigger chicken steak though. If I go to Silvery Bay Cafe in Richmond Hill or Cafe Le Majestik in Scarbs, I'm definitely getting more protein in my meal. Also, I do wish the curry came out more piping hot. It was kinda lukewarm when it arrived tbh. Baked pork chop rice w/ cream and tomato sauce: My friend said the pork chop was moist but again, the sauces on top of the rice could've been steaming hot as opposed to lukewarm. The added cheese was a nice touch though. Hokkaido ramen w/ beef and enoki mushroom: I warned my friend not to order ramen at an HK cafe but she refused to listen to me. Anyways, she said this dish was not that great go figure but she did say the beef tasted nice and tender. The drinks that are included w/ your meal are on the larger side which is nice almost makes me wanna add an extra star but they also aren't mixed that well. Would I return? Prolly not of my own accord. I'm definitely not in a rush to come back and try the other items. In my personal opinion, there are a lot of HK cafes better than this one but it gets a solid pass. Ironically, if it's true that Manna Kitchen and Blue Ocean Cafe have the same owner, I'd be really surprised as Manna Kitchen completely blows this place out of the water.
So many other Hong Kong cafes in the plaza but it’s worth the wait. Was in a bit of a time crunch so came here as we got a table right away Tried the Guilin minced pork rice noodle in soup and the cheddar cheese baked bolognese with spaghetti both on the lunch special so it came with a drink and soup The portion size for the rice noodle is pretty small compared to most places but still delicious and packed with flavour and the baked bolognese spaghetti was a bit bland The tea flavour in the iced milk tea is also a bit weak for some reason tastes like soy milk Not sure if I’ll ever get takeout from here but takeout is 5% off!
Food's not bad. Good services so far and the waitress was polite which is a pleasant surprise among those Chinese cafe in Markham. The only thing made this visit 1 star 0.5 star short is we were expecting that we finally able to taste the Puff Pastry Soup, but we were advised they no longer serve this soup.
Kinda decently priced prices have gone up for the quality of food. Not bad overall. Orded the Japanese style spaghetti with sliced beef. Came with a drink and soup. Parking: Can get busy during dinner time. Parking spots are somewhat small.
First time here. Came for some traditional Chinese desserts. No frills Cafe but decent desserts. Staff and service are almost non existent but the desserts are pretty solid. I had the mango pudding which was nice and not too sweet but with real mango pieces. Some of the desserts are made to order so you may have to wait a bit while it's prepared. Overall I would probably return if I was in the area and wanted some traditional Chinese desserts and would recommend to those who are nearby and like traditional Chinese desserts.
Decent HK café - feels like a clone of a busier one nearby. Price on the menu has gone up, but the quality went in the opposite direction. The chicken in the Malaysian curry with rice was too tough and chewy, and the curry wasn't that great. The portion of the inoki mushroom with sliced beef on ramen was rather small for $14.50 IMO. Would love to support this place more often, but they must up their game with the quality... especially with the recent price increase.
We order take out from them sometimes. They have a great selection of combos for breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner. The food quality and price is reasonable. Recently they have increased in their price but they offer you 10% discount if you pay by cash. They reopened for patio dining. The seating area was quite decent. They have 3 tables inside a tent and few small tables along the sidewalk in front of their restaurant. It was setup in a good social distance manner. Even if you go for patio dining there, the food was packed in clean take out containers. We finally visited Blue Ocean Cafe after they reopened for dine in service. The food quality was good & consistent. However, the service can be improved. It’s been a while since we had dine in breakfast at Blue Ocean Cafe. They are one of the cafes that open so early in the neighbourhood. This cafe is a good choice if you want to have Hong Kong Style food. Their Breakfast Combo and Stir-Fried Noodle/ Rice Lunch Combo are affordable and tasty. Recently, we came here with our visitors from USA to have afternoon tea sets. They were craving for some Hong Kong style cafe food. The restaurant was very crowded and the seating were very tight. The food was good but I must say that their service need to have some improvements. Most of the staff were ok but one lady was awful. She was rude and very impatient with elderly customers. Hopefully they can have better customer service when I revisit next time.
The food is so good! But it is somewhat difficult to communicate with some of the servers if you are not well versed in Mandarin or Cantonese - but they try their best and are very kind. Also that lemon tea was hitting
