Quintessential traditional village pub, serving great ales and food. A pint of Butcombe accompanied by a traditional roast beef dinner, in an atmospheric country pub is in my opinion the perfect way to spend a Sunday lunchtime
Absolutely shocking, I got there around half 6 was told the food wasn’t served until about 7, which wasn’t a problem, so had a drink and game of pool while I waited, then ordered a sirloin steak and it came as though it had been cooked in a kettle, I think they must have seasoned it before it got to the abattoir, bland and almost bent the fork before it went in, took two bites and asked for the bill, they never even asked if I was happy, they just took my money, hate complaining in anywhere but was expecting them to ask as id had almost none of it but they didn’t seem to care, would seriously avoid if possible, had to re buy my dinner at another pub down the road and it didn’t even compare from the food quality to the service quality, worlds apart. Would avoid if possible.
Fantastic pub with great food and drinks at very reasonable prices. We were staying at Lowe Farmhouse for the weekend and the Black Swan provided us with a lovely take out meal on the evening we arrived and Sunday lunch for the 13 of us before we departed. All food was plentiful and freshly cooked and we can thoroughly recommend. Thank you, we will be back.
Plenty of good beers and ales on tap, friendly locals and a roaring fire, what more could you want?! The food was excellent traditional pub fare including plenty of vegetarian options. A real gem.
Incredible steak pie and super friendly staff! A delightful olde English pub worthy of the long walk to get to it.
A family group of 10 had a meal here this evening to celebrate my birthday. Staff were great and everyone’s food was spot on . Well done the Black Swan.
Friendly happy place to have a drink.. the food looks pretty awesome as it comes out and Sunday lunches run out pretty quickly ..
We booked in early for dinner, as our group was 7 people. We had a lovely dinner, 3 courses of good homely food the pies were popular! They also had a few decent ales on tap. The host was great and spent some time with us chatting and explaining the back story of the pub.
Wonderful pub..lovely staff great food. Pubs like this are hard to find.. Nick and Tracy..
Visited The Black Swan yesterday, they had 2 real ales, Butty Bach and Butcombe Gold, lovely looking building, apparently the food as well. Decent car park too, ample for half a dozen cars with space to move. Very much a locals local, landlady apparently in her 80s, the barman was a grandson. Busy as you can imagine on a nice day which is great to see for a pub in the sticks! If you're ever out that way well worth checking out
