Wherever we go to get into Betty’s there is always a queue. There’s a reason why it’s so popular. It’s so good. The service is excellent and the taste and quality of every dish I’ve ever tried does not disappoint. Yes you pay for this excellence, but worth every penny.
We had high hopes as we usually go to the Betty’s in York but this time we were visiting Harrogate and there were 7 of us. Unfortunately, for 4 of us, the food came out while the rest waited patiently. Since we were hungry, we asked the rest of the group to start hoping the rest of the lunch would come soon. We had ordered late lunch options and also the afternoon tea but it seems that half of the lunch order was forgotten. So, by the time it had come, the rest of the group had already started their afternoon tea so it was a mess. We did get a discount so it wasn’t all bad, but it did mess up the atmosphere quite a bit. Anyways, the food was good and I may consider going again because I know that this was a mistake and that can easily happen. Food-wide, everything was delicious!
A welcome retreat!! Gorgeous surroundings. Sumptuous food & marvellous staff. A special thanks to Meghan & Darcy for making my trip memorable & very special
Always a wonderful experience at Betty's. First time visiting this location, queued for about 50 minutes which went by quickly surrounded by lovely gardens. Unfortunately we were seated next to a table with extremely bad behaved kids, our waitress allowed us to move and seated us outside with a lovely view. The warm Fat Rascal is a must, coffee is always absolutely delicious and the Caesar Salad is wonderful. A waitress came round asking if we wanted anything from the shop, she packaged it beautifully and we paid at the table.
Overpriced and extremely disappointing. We bought four cakes for the children and ourselves this afternoon to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary. When we got them home, we realised that two out of the four were inedible. The bumble bee cupcake was stale and rock hard; the cream in the chocolate éclair was on the turn. Tried to call to speak to a manager but the recorded message explained that customer services are closed today. Incredibly frustrating outcome to what should have been a really special afternoon tea....
The vegan afternoon tea left much to be desired, especially for the price ~£25 and compared to the main dishes on offer. The sandwiches were underwhelming and lacked thought. The dessert tier was also underwhelming, with one being a yoghurt and coulis pot. However the mushroom and chestnut lattice ~£15 was very nice, with a lovely pesto dip and an interesting cabbage side. The view was nice and staff were attentive, although taking orders felt a bit rushed given the size of the menu. It would be nice to see the same amount of effort and creativity being put into the vegan afternoon tea as we saw in the mushroom lattice. Hope to see improvements soon! One cucumber sandwich already eaten in the photo!
It’s been a number of years since we’ve been to Betty’s at Harlow Carr! So we decided to make a change; rather than go to the York cafe which we go frequently!, we’d come here instead! Once we parked in the car park, we made our way to a friendly lady who directed us to the queue to the entrance. She mentioned it would be 15 minutes wait. It didn’t bother us as the view of the gardens were beautiful! Once we got a table, we sat in awe of the view! It was by the window which had a beautiful view! We were greeted by a friendly waitress who took our drinks order. We perused the menu in the meantime! Normally, we have afternoon tea but we wanted to try the other dishes. The waitress came with our drinks and then took our lunch order! It didn’t take long before the food came. It was well presented and delicious. We were also given some chutney to compliment the meal! During our time, another waitress came and asked if we wanted to buy anything from the shop. She could take our order to save us queuing. We thought that was a great service and that she would bring us the goodies! We made room for desserts and picked the Brown bread ice cream sundaes! That didn’t disappoint! There were chunks of brown bread that tasted caramelised. The toffee sauce was delicious as were the pecans! The whipped cream was very light! We were full by then!! I would definitely recommend a trip here for breakfast/brunch/lunch/afternoon tea. You won’t be disappointed. The staff are friendly and efficient; and the atmosphere is perfect! Tables were safely spaced and we didn’t feel rushed!!
Excellent customer service and very polite staff. I ordered the pea soup and salmon sandwiches. I asked them to swap out the lemon mayonnaise with plain and they were happy to oblige. The meal was delicious. Please read my other reviews to see how other Betty's tea rooms compare.
Yesterday I was served with the worst haddock and chips that I have ever experienced in Yorkshire. The fish portion was minute, the chips average though the peas were excellent. I can live with paying premium prices occasionally but in return I expect a premium product and this fell woefully short. The ambiance, service and staff were excellent.
Hard to beat Bettys at Harlow Carr. A favourite start to the day. Tuesday visit. Arrived at 0900 when it opens and by the time we left an hour later the place was full. Tables nicely spaced.
