I had a nice stay, however I was expecting my room to be a bit more modern from the photographs I saw on the website. My room smelled damp, but had a very clean and relatively modern bathroom. No ac, but a fan was provided. They also provide tea and coffee facilities in the room. There was an option to have it made up, quite a nice move. All the staff were very friendly and there was a good breakfast buffet in the morning. There was also a good bar and a restaurant on site as well. There is also a nice courtyard and the bar and restaurant is open to the public as well.
The location is great.nnThe staff were not very friendly or helpful.nnThe rooms have very thin walls, you will feel like you’re watching TV with the room next door. You could probably catch up with the room next door too, because who wouldn’t want that.nnThe bathroom was quite mouldy and the room was not cleaned well. I was struggling with asthma during the night.nnThe breakfast is quite poor.nnOverall, try a premier inn, far better value.
We stayed here on Sunday and I was very disappointed with this hotel. The location is wonderful but the rooms need some attention, as do the hallways and breakfast room. We came back to the hotel on Sunday night around 10.30 for a drink. Unfortunately the hotel doesn't have any staff at night. There was only one guy on shift trying his best to be a bar man, security, receptionist, and deal with a customer complaint. It was really hard to watch. It took over 40 minutes to get our drinks, and the order was wrong, and my partners pint looked like one of the worst pulled pints we have ever seen. This member of staff is clearly not trained on the bar area. The advantage of staying in a hotel is obviously staff on call to look after you and a bar to get a drink. It is super unfair to the guests and the one member of staff that the hotel had on shift trying his best to fill the roles of at least 3 members of staff. Breakfast was awful, I had to ask 3 times for items to be restocked, no eggs, no milk, and no bread for toast. I was actually told the bread was getting defrosted. I was greeted with an attitude from the staff member when I asked for the eggs and bread. My food ended up being cold, waiting for the items to be refilled. Obviously, the staff aren't trained on how to run the breakfast area. They should be trained to make sure the stock is replenished before there is nothing left for the guests. The lack of staff training and attention to detail really let's this hotel down. You do not get the hotel experience because the staff need training, and the management needs to look at the service that is being offered to guests at night. It is not acceptable to have one member of staff on dealing with the reception area, complaints, security, and bar services. I definitely wouldn't recommend staying here. Also the noise from some sort of generator that goes off at least every hour is just terrible,. In fact one of the guests was at reception complaining that they had not slept in two nights. This hotel is not cheap and there are far better hotels to stay, when visiting Salisbury.. Don't waste your money.
We've stayed here quite a few times but the most recent one might be the last. Deeply unimpressed with a room that was opposite a night club, which boomed away until gone the small hours. Fine, but my night club days are well over and there was no need to pointedly place an older couple in such a location.nIt's a nice hotel, though, characterful, but this time I felt the service was snooty and humiliating. Salisbury is nice and The Red Lion is ideally placed for the excellent Saturday market
We need a change while stay in Salisbury for exploring Stonehenge so choose to stay in Red Lion. don't know why. But later feel it was right decision to stay here.nVery central location. Not far from anything Cathedral, town centre, transport, restaurants and bars around.nAs soon as we entered, love the courtyard, full greenery and flowers. Plenty of tables to enjoy the atmosphere and weather which we did and had tea in morning.nHotel interior was very touchy and historic. So do the hotel history is going back to 13th century building and keep using it as a hotel from the start. Even they call it the oldest running hotel in Europe.nService was good on counter, staff looks very professional, talk to the point without attitude.nRoom was so cool. All the interior And look was so different then other hotels. Bathroom was very clean and stylish. Very quiet and lovely ambience which is good to get good rest. Highly recommend if you need a change.
