The Applecart 10 minutes to the south was full so we tried here at the Ock Mill. They too were full but invited the use of the bar area for a more informal meal. Food was of the expected high Beefeater standard, service understandably a little slower than usual. Unfortunately some of the bar staff seemed to be carrying all the worlds cares under a big black cloud having forgotten that a smile is often rewarded in kind. My guest even asked if she was having a bad day and she said " no" so we were relieved to have avoided her on a bad day. Nice place, good food dumped at our table without a word and a shame that we were made to feel so uncomfortable. Two days later we chose The Applecart over the Ock Mill. Whitbread please take note.

Honestly could not fault the service or food when we visited this evening. We went to celebrate a birthday and had 3 children there between 22 months and 15 years and everyone was made to feel really welcome. There is a particularly lovely member of staff that works behind the bar (with a 'follow your dreams' tattoo on his arm) who looked after us so well. It was a lovely touch when he put candles in one of the desserts for the birthday cake....and then proceeded to sing happy birthday to her! The food was really lovely and there was lots of choice! You have to pay £2 to park as it is a council car park but if you take your ticket to the yill, they refund it from your bill. We shall be eating there again!

The food was alright and thats about it. Visited on a Saturday afternoon, the restaurant wasn't very busy, free parking directly outside, but we had to wait a while for our food - it is always a bit of a debate what is too long to wait for freshly cooked food, especially stake but we felt for the number of people dining that it could have been a little quicker. Staff weren't very enthusiastic and generally not over happy to be at work on a Saturday afternoon. The waiter dipped his swipe card (dangling around his neck) into my wife's meal as he bent over the table, when I asked if could he get a fresh meal, he responded by saying that being fresh cooked it could be a while before she got her meal back - we gave in and kept the meal. Wouldn't go back.

Dinner came out cold And was all pre ordered.. was fast service but barely finished one course before the next was put in front of us. Some meals came out wrong and had to be sent back leaving one person without food for a while. Staff lovely.

We came here for the first time a few weeks ago. I was surprised that we had to order at the bar and there wasn’t table service... (maybe there is if we had sat in a different part of the restaurant?). The prawn cocktail starter would have been lovely if it wasn’t for the brown lettuce that came with it. However, we were given a refund and the manager said she would speak to the kitchen staff. She did also come over and apologise to me personally, which was a nice touch. I had the lamb main which was ok. The lamb itself was lovely and the jus was delicious, although there wasn’t much of it. The broccoli was really hard, and the potato&beef rosti that it came on was gross. I didn’t say anything as I didn’t want to cause a fuss again after the problem with my starter. All the desserts were great for the entire table.
