Frequently Asked Questions

1. How is the site managed?

This site does not have a dedicated team to service the enquiries made through it. The staff who post the responses are doing so in addition to their main roles.

2. What can I post on the site?

Please remember that Facebook is a public forum and is not the appropriate place for us to discuss specific cases or complaints. In such cases we may message you directly to inform you on how best to resolve your issue.

Whilst we encourage healthy debate and appreciate that our users will have opinions on current events, we ask everyone to remember that this site has a large and diverse user base, so please be respectful when making your comments.

Our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) is our dedicated department that deals with these enquiries and can be contacted via email at [email protected] or by phone on 01234 795814.

3. What is your deletion policy?

Bedford Hospital NHS Trust will remove any comments that are considered to be:

- Offensive
- Abusive
- Threatening
- Deliberately insensitive or inflammatory
- Contain links

We may remove posts that have no connection to Bedford Hospital NHS Trust as this site is for local healthcare information. It is inappropriate for us to comment on or host debates about actions being undertaken by other Trusts, other professional bodies or other countries.

Where possible we will try to inform a user that their post has been deleted and offer an explanation as to why. However, as this site is not run by a dedicated team, we may not always be able to do this.

4. Why do you mention the names of some patients?

Patients that we name in our articles and posts have agreed and signed to do so. Each patient fills out a consent form which must be signed by them and authorised by a responsible clinician if appropriate.

5. How can I contact you if I don’t want to post my questions on here?

Bedford Hospital have amazing staff, doctors and nurses. My 86 year old husband been admitted for life threatening circumstances at least 4 times in five years. Fortunately the last time was November 21 when he had a second perforated bowel. They always work tirelessly and find a solution without surgery, Thank you. A happy new year, you deserve your pay rise, clapping does not pay the bills.
Incredibly well working massive machine, ran by incredible caring people, both professional medics and support staff... I was admitted last weekend, upon urgent referral from my cardiologist who spotted a pseudo aneurysm in my groin as a complication after cardiac catheter ablation which was done in a different hospital. I was of course upset and shocked to get back to the hospital and facing an emergency surgery. After sleepless night, Mr A Noor, a head of vascular surgery, came and explained why they need to operate vs medication treatment and there was no nonsense. I understood everything very quickly. The operation was good, relatively quick and the after care was excellent. Nurses are brilliant, well, most of them, especially Betsy and Jack in Reginald Hart Ward, and I received excellent care. It was my first stay in NHS hospital and I was impressed. Communication flows well and when you think about the logistical challenges and the size of the whole operation, from prescription to accommodating personal choices for dinners... well done, excellent hospital. and THANK YOU ALL for your care. Special Thank you to Mr A Noor and his team for their professionalism and saving my leg. Thank you. Lara
I was sitting outside the hospital and was very disgusted with what I saw. I was visiting a ward where the staff were rude and didn’t know how to speak to patients family. On my way to see someone in a ward, I walked past a side room where another patient was falling off the bed and did not have any undergarments on. I could literally see his private parts. He was left there for over 15 minutes, I saw him in the same position on my way out. Anyone that was walking through the main path to exit would’ve seen this. Is this really acceptable treatment for a patient??
I have nothing but praise and thanks to the security man on A&E on Sunday night 7/8/22. Not only did he allow me to phone the care home I worked at to update them on the person I was escorting but also phoned a taxi for me and helped me in the taxi. What a kind a caring young man. I hope this reaches his manager he deserves praise.
Called 111 was told to wait 9 hrs for ambulance or go to A&E, taken to A&E 11pm at night waited 13hrs to see a doctor did not get seen following day till 3pm, they should offer you a death pill wait 13hrs in pain or take a pill and die, I no longer bother with the NHS it's absolute shambles!!! Can not even get an appointment at my local GP 2 weeks to get appointment and it's a telephone call. YOUR BETTER OFF DEAD!!!
Nurses and doctors are great, shame can't be said about reception. I was made to wait outside with two kids in the rain because we wasn't allowed to sit with my partner in a&e. I tried to explain he had special needs but she didnt care. So we waited with the drunks, very safe!
Just horrible service from the NHS. I waited 1 year for a appointment and I went with my own CT scan to speed things up and they made me wait again 2 months and a half to tell me they can't accept it. And that after calling every week for a month to ask for updates. They just don't care. It's disgusting. Better go to another hospital. This one is useless.
Dermatology - quite possibly one of the worst departments ever. Over the course of 5 weeks they have lost my daughter's blood tests twice and I cannot speak to anyone apart from a secretary bleating on about how understaffed they are and that it's not her fault …incompetence isn't due to understaffing, so that is no excuse! If the hospital decides to have a very annoying and unnecessarily long telephone system whereby it is impossible to get through and speak to any medical professional, then unfortunately hearing "it's not my fault" as an explanation just isn't going to cut it. After wasting another hour of my life trying to speak to someone I have given up.
Good afternoon to all of the wonderful staff at the Endoscopy department at Bedford hospital. I had today been for my three yearly Endoscopy to check on the state of my Barretts oesophagus. From the moment of arrival in pre-op section the my leaving was absolutely brilliant. A warm welcome awaited and I was quickly taken the pre op room to go through the formalities, then the anaesthetist came through and did his thorough checks. Off I go to theatre and about 6-8 people we are waiting for me, everything was so professional precise and exact and left me feeling completely at ease moving forward to the recovery room to the very kind staff who cared for myself and the others present and did their job diligently and professionally, then through to the departure lounge for a lovely coffee and a tasty sandwich all served with a smile and kindness. All I can say is that the endoscopy department and all the wonderful staff operate like a smoothly oiled machine all friendly and polite with a high degree of professionalism from entry to exit. I take my hat off to you you’re doing a fantastic job. Kind regards Andrew Diemer.
Attended with my wife expecting a wait but we were seen and back out in 15 minutes, so all was good.
