Sat on a picnic bench outside the pub for all of 30 seconds today, with my 3 year old who needed a sip of water, was then met with unfriendly lady who told me I couldn’t sit there.. there were no other customers there more compassion wouldn’t have gone a miss after walking half an hour with a toddler and heavy bags. I would never go in here after being spoken to like that, after reading some of the other reviews, it seems I’m not the only one who has been met with a rude manner.
In otley for a show at the arts centre and looking for a pub to have some food and a drink before the show. See this pub with signs outside saying that the benches are for people having *food* and drink at the Bay Horse so obviously assume that there's food. Driven for an hour to get here so head upstairs to use the toilet before ordering food. Landlord chases me "Excuse me! Can I help you?!" "Yes I'll be down for food in a minute." "We don't sell food." Never felt so unwelcome in a pub before.
Always enjoy visiting this pub. I like the style and the atmosphere, not to mention, the beer is fantastic too. The Landlord and Lady have been given some bad press for not allowing bad language, but I like that. It's very similar to a Sam Smiths pub. Homely.
Notoriously unfriendly pub in a town filled with fantastic pubs. Plenty of great options around town but unfortunately this isn’t one of them.
Called in for a drink recently and my husband was ‘told off’ by the landlady I’m assuming for swearing!!! They even have a sign up stating that you may be asked to leave if you swear! Wow, it’s fantastic when you can pick and choose your customers in the current climate! Not surprised we were the only ones in there! How utterly ridiculous to ask adults not to swear! Laughable really! Definitely won’t be returning! Shame though because it was a lovely little pub!
A real gem of a pub , like a throwback to the 1970s friendly landlord good range of spirits and gin, reasonably priced beer too . Not for all tastes but a favourite of mine
Hidden gem! Traditional pub with excellent beer and friendly and welcoming landlord / landlady. Put on free haggis supper for burns night, and on other occasions are happy for you to bring your own takeaway food in to eat with your pint, as they don't serve food. Cash only.
Signs everywhere stating seating is for customers who have purchased food and/or drink. Went in and ordered a drink. Then asked for a menu. Was told they only do food on Friday and Saturday, and then it's sandwiches. My question is, if you can do it Friday and Saturday, why can't you do it all week? Sandwiches are fine, but only 2 days per week probably isn't
Called in today as we have over the years with our little Yorkie....this place has changed beyond belief...very unfriendly...the lady who I presume was the landlady...had a beefy looking dog roaming free behind the bar. She made it clear that her dog wasn't dog friendly...so we would be best going in the other room. It used to be one of our favourite pubs...now probably the worst! I wonder why it was empty! We didn't stay to have a drink!
We were over in Otley with a retired group. A few if us went in the Bay Horse. We had a great afternoon. The landlady couldn't do enough for us. Will definitely go back they well deserved the custom
