Arrived about 2ish to a very pleasant receptionist, reception area ok and clean at least. Lift broken so had use the stairs. Me and my best friend was on the first floor, first impression was not great. Corridor leading to the room was very poor. Doors need a lick of paint, smelt of stale cigarettes very off putting. Room was what we asked for, Sea view. Room needs going over with a duster, very warm couldn't sleep that's with the heating off, bed too hard. Asked the evening staff for a mattress topper as I suffer with a bad back. No help what's so ever. Only decent thing was the view.nMore negatives than positives. Won't be coming back.
Rooms were comfortable, nice firm bed.nElectric shower worked well room 1.nHotel common areas were very warm and room warm enough without radiator on.nWe were on a package with dinner, and both breakfast and dinner were very nicely cooked, and very tasty.nWonderful staff were always very friendly and helpful.
Stayed here a few times, but I must say I don't know if I will stay again. The hotel has really gone down hill, they advertised an English breakfast but can't serve bacon due to new owners religion, the room was shabby and dirty. The staff are lovely bless them. No alcohol is served anywhere in the hotel now alcohol free. I think it's time to find a new place to stay
Just stayed here for 2 nights. It was our second visit and the staff were really helpful. I really appreciated them and the chef sorting vegan options for me. I was a bit disappointed that the bar was now alcohol free as let's face it, a lot if us like a drink on holiday. However, the choice of alcohol free drinks was great. Sadly the hotel is now a bit run down, the lift still scares me as it's very old and some things were not working when we were there. My single room was a bit dated, but clean and the bed was comfy.
Just had a 4 night stay at the Carlton and sorry to say it was the worst hotel we have ever stayed in.nEverywhere is shabby and worn but reasonably clean, our large front facing bedroom had bare patches down to the backing on the marked carpet, the windows were filthy and radiators in the room and bathroom not working. We were supplied with a small oiled filled radiator to heat the bedroom which we had to use to dry off after a shower to keep warm, temperature has been zero or below. The tap in the hand basin was loose and swung round about 45 degrees. Plenty of hot water.nOur next disappointment was in the dining room, bacon replaced by leathery strips of Turkey rashers, anemic looking beef sausages, cold fried eggs and two toasters which were temperamental.nEvening meals even worse, it felt as if everything had been done as cheaply as possible, starters reasonable, main courses poor, no fresh vegetables, frozen and mushy, tinned potatoes or sloppy potatoes and ashamed to say Christmas dinners went back to go in the bin.nThis could be a lovely hotel if refurbished to a higher standard and the chef learnt how to cook
