Staff help make this a 5 star experience regardless of being a day voucher visitor or a member. From the gent on reception, to the cafe staff and the ladies running the treatments, all are universally welcoming, friendly and approachable. Spa itself is nice, although it can be quite busy too busy for the small scale facilities, small jacuzzi, steam room, sauna + nice relaxation room. Treatments were very good as well. Our meal was nice enough although some visitors aren't very considerate with loud phone conversations in the cafe, I mean...really?Ample parking help make it easy to visit. If it weren't for the staff, would rank this lower. Special kudos for the staff that arranged privacy for my wife to express milk!
I recently had the unfortunate experience of joining Bannatyne Gym and Health Club, and it has been nothing short of a disaster. The facilities are in dire need of maintenance and updating. The swimming pool is freezing, the jacuzzi is lukewarm at best, and the sauna isn't even hot enough to provide any therapeutic benefits. The general manager is condescending and arrogant. He seems to care more about making a sale than providing a good experience for the members. The gym equipment is outdated and often broken, and the gym itself is overcrowded and chaotic. It's difficult to even find a machine to use, let alone have a peaceful workout. To top it all off, despite the decline in quality, the prices have gone up. It's clear that Bannatyne Gym and Health Club is more interested in making a profit than providing a good service to their members. I have since switched to David Lloyd and have been much happier with my experience. The extra money I'm paying is worth it for the higher quality facilities and more attentive staff. I would not recommend Bannatyne Gym and Health Club to anyone.
Had a lovely day BUT that was mainly due to it being with a friend I hadn't seen for a long time. Other than that - 2 of us were booked for a 10.30 Swedish massage, followed by 2 scalp and hand treatments. Friend travelled from London for this spa day. 20 minutes before statt of treatments, we got call we were just parking to say therapist hadn't turned up and treatments were all cancelled. We turned up to use facilities anyway and lady behind desk was very kind and apologetic, offered refund and use of spa for day, and complimentary lunch, so big kudos for that. Though it looked like many others were being cancelled also. Facilities - were OK- pool was all lanes so no relaxing in there, and the jacuzzi was cool but just warm enough for a 10 minute relax though very noisy and a bit grotty around the edges. The sauna was more of a warm room, not very hot, but I enjoyed the steam room and the relaxation room was actually quite relaxing too. There are NO seats or places to relax pool side. Don't expect a relaxing spa lounger or anywhere to sit for a water or coffee poolside, it's more of a regular swimming pool attached to a gym without the extra features you may want on a "spa experience". The lunch was nice although it did seem it was the same person working behind the desk, in the cafe and perhaps even serving the food. There are signs about looking to employ spa therapists so it seems they are aware of their lack of staff for this, so it would be sensible to stop booking spa days for people and letting them down before getting some proper staff who can do their jobs sufficiently. Saying that, the lady running the show Sophie? Was doing a sterling job - I'd be surprised if she wasn't running the classes, cleaning the pool and toilets ans checking the parking too... All in all, we won't be going back for a spa day and won't be recommending others do either- we are expecting a refund and will be putting it towards a day elsewhere.
They have recently reduced the temperature in the sauna to around 70 degrees Celsius and despite many complaints from members, show no sign of returning it to normal. For reference, the David Lloyd sauna runs at around 90 degrees Celsius so they are essentially advertising a warm room as a sauna facility. Unacceptable for the amount of money they are charging.
I've been a member here for over a year but have cancelled my membership as my direct debit was increased without warning. The membership costs are already too high for the facilities, which are pretty basic and feel too small for the number of people there and I only go at off-peak times. I like the steam room but the sauna, jacuzzi and pool are never a consistent temperature - the pool is often too warm and the jacuzzi/sauna not warm enough. The beds in the relaxation room are sometimes heated, sometimes freezing cold. The air con in the gym is awful. The coffee they serve in the cafe is a letdown and the staff seem generally unhappy. It's a hit and miss experience and definitely not worth the price.
Can’t understand the negative reviews on TA as we went for a spa day and it was lovely from start to finish and the full body scrub afterwards was particularly good. A very relaxing day out and well worth the money. Shame the sauna wasn’t working but that didn’t spoil our day. Hope to return again soon.
After reading the reviews I was worried it was going to be a bad experience, but could t have been more wrong. Nice and clean, treatment room was great, was around a 4 minute delay but that’s no issue. Sauna hot, steam room great, jacuzzi was hot and pool was perfect. Clean and well run.
Cons: staff Noisy relaxation room Cold poolside showers Pros: Free parking Clean pool and changing rooms Lots of classes For me the staff are letting down this club massively here are some examples why: 1. Rarely anyone on reception. You can hear them talking in the office at the back so you know they are there. No matter how loud you shout to get their attention they never hear you. Sometimes I have gone behind reception to get their attention and I get a fifthly look. 2. Untrained staff. A number of time I have asked for something such as an upgrade, booking a spa treatment etc and the staff I talk to don't know how to do it on their system. They say they'll get the manager to call me back and they never have. 3. The spa staff chat in front of the guests about their plans for nights out at the weekend. Argue about who is doing the next treatment and are generally unaware that they can be seen and heard by customers.
Given the sheer amount of Dragon's Den I have been watching recently and the proximity of this club to me, Bannatyne Health Club and Spa seemed the obvious choice for my new gym. However, like Duncan, I tend to do a bit of due diligence before putting my money into a business, and in this instance it seems to have thrown up some troubling information about the current state of the sauna. A sauna is a key element to my gym routine, and after reading the comments about the temperature of the sauna or should I say warm room at this facility, I'm afraid I'm going to have to say "I'm out".
Really hate doing this but I have tried telling the people behind the desk many times and no changes are made. The sauna is far too cold and rumours are that management has decided to reduce the temperature on a permanent basis to cut costs. However, such a reduction has been made that the health benefits from actually using the sauna have been greatly diminished. If you are looking for a sauna, this can no longer be the gym for you! If the sauna temperature is rectified I would be happy to increase the stars of my review. Thank you.
