Story

balance is based in Glasgow & offers a full timetable of Yoga Classes, Yoga Workshops, Yoga for Runners, Yoga Teacher Training & other specialist classes for Absolute Beginners, Antenatal (pregnancy) and Postnatal (mum & baby) as well as One-to-One private sessions and yearly Yoga Retreats.

balance was formed by McTimoney Chiropractors Caroline Arnott and Alan MacInnes, and yoga teacher Gerry Kielty.

Caroline, Alan and Gerry have known each other through their chosen fields for several years. Through time, it became apparent that not only did they share many of the same patients/students, but also that the philosophy of their disciplines very much complemented each other. Caroline, Alan and Gerry decided to open a centre offering their combined services, but also offering other complementary health treatments/services which support a healthy life(style) philosophy.

balance was the first centre of its type to open in the Glasgow area. We provide a fully equipped yoga studio with extensive class timetable, McTimoney Chiropractic and Complementary Health services of the highest standard. Patients / students varying needs can be met by the individual practitioners / teachers, or where required, on a cross-referral basis within the centre.

balance's philosophy, therefore, is to create a support structure, providing the individual with information, choice and ultimately empowerment to take ownership of their health and well-being.

Yesterday I completed my 4-week Beginner Aerial Yoga course with Mags. I have loved the classes and I have gained confidence week after week, with guidance and encouragement from Mags. As an instructor she is patient and considerate of personal preferences/physical health when it comes to some of the techniques. I have left every class feeling better, both in my performance in the class and my wellbeing. Would highly recommend if someone wants to try something new and relaxing.
I've had 2 back ops for nerve root decompression was affecting my sciatic nerve which has worked to a fashion for the last 10 years or so Recently however my sciatica has returned as bad as ever. JP at balance was recommended to me. I have tried many physios in my time but have to say that after only 2 sessions and doing my 'homework' as prescribed I am amazed the pain is subsiding. The approach is much gentler than I expected too. Manipulating and stretching the muscles in my back and buttocks which have tightened and possibly causing the nerve to be affected. It is certainly working that's for sure. I would definitely recommend Balance and hopefully they will be able to help you as they have me. Best of luck Peter
I cannot speak highly enough about Balance having been a Yoga student here for over 10 years. I would recommend Balance to anyone. The yoga studio is spacious and to a very high standard. The atmosphere is welcoming & relaxed. The yoga teachers are incredible, particularly Maureen & Gerry, giving high quality instructions & so encouraging and supportive throughout the practice. The teachers are backed up by the front desk staff who are always friendly & helpful. The studio offers a wide range of yoga & workshops and caters to suit all levels.. If you're looking to start or enhance your yoga journey there would be no better place to be than Balance.
I have been going to Balance Yoga for around 5 years. It is a lovely facility, clean, up to date, well run and with competent and friendly receptionists and staff. It does all sorts of Physio, chiropractor and medicine as well as having some excellent yoga teachers - primarily Maureen and Gerry, but with lots of others including guest teachers. The classes are well structured and you can choose a class to suit all abilities. Maureen and Gerry are particularly good at assisting students and will always help to suggest an alternative variation e.g. if you are carrying an injury. The yoga studio is light and welcoming and of a very high standard. It is by far the best yoga setup I have tried in Scotland. If you want some escapism try the aerial yoga classes on Saturday afternoon. Charlie
I have been a student and teacher at Balance for over 9 years. The yoga teaching standard is very high, which was my motivation in studying to teach with Gerry and Maureen. Teaching is student focused with attention to safe practice and to developing strength and flexibility in students of all ages. The teacher/student relationship is friendly and open.
Alan has been outstanding over the years and really got to the root of all sorts of horrible mechanical problems I’d developed. Latest and new! one was intense pain in my shoulder which had gone on for months and I was so worried I would need a rotator cuff op as two friends had had, but of course Alan identified why it was , did some work on it and now I’m pain free and very relieved!
I had a knee problem arising from an operation l had 16 years ago. I had been told by my GP and physio that the pain and inflammation l had was due to arthritis stemming from the site of the operation. They advised that really l could not expect to be as active as l had been and that the best solution was to rest the knee and to undertake gentle exercise with breaks inbetween. My yoga instructor Anthea Simpson from Yoga Healing Glasgow advised me to make an appointment with the McTimoney Chiropractic clinic at Balance. I had two appointments and a week after the second ....the pain had gone from my knee! I now carry out the simple exercises that the practitioner gave me to do and have to say that l can't believe the improvement! Big Thank you to the clinic l can now walk for miles and climb stairs again without pain.
I’ve been going to Balance for a few years - Yoga and chiropractor. I would definitely recommend giving it a try. Very welcoming, friendly and knowledgable staff and teachers. A great range of yoga classes and lots of other treatments and therapies available in a great clean and bright space.
I have experienced treatments from all of the McTimoney chiropractors at balance over the course of 12 years, all of whom are consummate professionals each with their own subtle differences in style. More recently I've been receiving treatments every few months with John Paul. He really has quite exceptional & natural intuition and sensitivity and practices with great reassurance & genuine kindness to the client . His approach is very thorough yet highly thoughtful and he always checks in with you offering advice where needed. I have recommended quite a few people to him now and everyone has benefitted greatly from his unique approach including me.
This place is my little heaven in Glasgow. It is the place that introduced me to yoga and I will be forever grateful for that. Great teachers with so many years worth of experience that understand your needs and know your limits. I love coming back to it whenever I can : Highly recommended yoga studio, especially to completely beginners.
