Great food and real ale.
I'm just having a lovely pint of real ale in The Gavel and very sad to learn it is closing down on Jan 1st. I have been drinking here for the past 12 years and the food and beers have always been good with a great selection if real ales. It has been much quieter since it was taken over as many of the former regular customers left and I'm not sure why. Best wishes to Mel and all the staff for the future and thank you for the service you provided. You will all be sadly missed.
The food was shocking. I had pie which was OK my husband's was just gristle, my chips still hard and vegetables consisted of peas? The male member of bar staff needs re training on customer service. I will never go back to this establishment. If anyone else wants good food try Indian Palace over the road near KFC
Went for breakfast on a Saturday morning with the Mrs and a friend. Got served as soon as I went to the bar. Sat down and within about 4 mins food came to the table. Food was hot and came with nice presentation. Very good and fast service along with pleasant staff made for an enjoyable experience. Highly recommended.
Nice place. Very clean and tidy. Menu could be better. Went to bar to order food. To be told can't take card payment for food only cash. But could buy drink with food. Should have a sugn saying this. Was a bit strange!!!!!!. But the food was out in good time. And very nice. And the drink was good. I had larger was refreshing. Staff could have been a bit more friendly. But would go again.
Food was good but no atmosphere
Made my first visit last night since it has changed to the Gavel. Really impressed with the selection of ales at reasonable prices. The visit was unfortunately marred by a friend having her phone stolen from her bag whilst at the bar, so be careful.
Since we came here in april the menu has changed. For the worse we ordered the triple chicken burger, we regretted it what we were served you could've purchased in any frozen food store for less than a fiver served by someone with no personality, or knowingly to deal with the public or customers I do the job myself so I have the experience button again I'm not 18 used to come here regularly will not be again.
Was good. Is now closed. 9.30 tonight.
Tasty food. Good real ale. Friendly, polite and efficient staff. Jukebox, pool table free to use during the week, live bands on a weekend and a monthly quiz starting Tuesday 6th February 2018 are recent additions as the owner and his right hand man Sean continue to reverse the fortunes of this pub for the better.... Carlsberg only £1.80pt and real ale starts from just £1.65pt.....
