It's an intimate space and for this reason, one will always be close to the stage. I find this rather pleasant in a theatre, as it gives a closer connection to the acting. However, my visit turned out to be disappointing because of two lousy spectators who kept moving around the empty seats, and one ended up sitting right next to me, pushing the contents of her cumbersome and smelly bags on my feet and arms, spoiling the quality of my visit. Given the limited seating space, bulky and smelly carrier bags must be forbidden in the theatre!
Gorgeous, intimate theatre in Islington. The staff are very welcoming and hospitable. I've seen two plays here which I've thoroughly enjoyed. The tea and cakes from the cafe were delicious and reasonably priced. I'll definitely be back again!
First visit to the Almedia Theatre. Front of House staff. Friendly and helpful. Cafe/bar reasonable I think the theatre is across two buildings. But the performance space in one. Show: Portia Coughlan A moving and difficult at times play. The cast is excellent. Especially, Alison Oliver as the titular Portia. The play set in Ireland through I've not met an Irish woman called Portia. Kathy Kiera Clarke is excellent in both comedic parts and the more serious elements of the play. A very powerful play.
Lovely theatre off Upper Street, Islington. Easy to get to, good transport links. Watched 'The Secret Life of Bees' which was truly amazing. Outstanding music and performances. Intimate theatre with a great cafe with reasonably priced food and drinks. Production started 30 minutes after the published time but that was fine as there is plenty of seating in the foyer and cafe.
Like all theatres - at its best this place is incredible - recent highlights include king Lear, and the years. Wish they’d do more to encourage a broader audience demographic but likely this is also to do with its location in the posh bit of Islington. Staff always friendly and helpful.
This is a lovely independent theatre. If you need something to eat beforehand, I’d highly recommend visiting their cafe which has a great small menu of pre-theatre dishes with most dietaries catered for!
This is a lovely theatre - feels very local, and is obviously well supported. Lovely big bar and outside seating. And the theatre itself is very well laid out with excellent sight lines. Very reasonably priced tickets.
The plays never disappoint. My fav no.1 theatre in London. I also like that the theatre is not so big, wherever you sit. The stage is always visible, and you feel as if it is only for you.
The Almeida is a lovely theatre and if you want a coffee or snack it has a nice cafe. The staff are also friendly and helpful.
Beautiful theatre. We got the privilege of watching Romeo and Juliet and it was an amazing experience. The theatre felt very intimate and the actors were outstanding.
