Lovely and very well crafted piece! I watched this with my 8years old and she thoroughly enjoyed it, especially when the real steam engine steps in. Decent food options are available too. A must watch show!
Purpose built pop up theatre. Saw Lazarus here. Amazing venue, phenomenal sound and lighting. Friendly staff and quick bar service. Drinks a little pricey, but hey, what theatre isn't?
Saw the David Bowie musical, "Lazarus", here. The well lit theater is very large. It is also easy to find via public transport. It serves drinks. Staff are friendly and professional. Seats are comfortable and plush.
Came here to see Lazarus, and was really surprised by the quality of sound in the venue. The outer appearance of a pop up marquee can be deceiving. Only downside is that you can hear city noise during the performance
Great little theatre. Saw In The Heights which was ace. Fab bar/foyer area - really big with good drinks selection - mulled wine in December. Studio theatre which looks to be really flexible in terms of layout. This does mean seats are not as comfy as permanently fixed seats but much better than others in studio theatres. Great location.
Went to see "In the Heights". Clever stage/seating set up. Nicely spacious toilets. The waiting area/foyer had a fun pick&mix selection along with popcorn; it would've been handy to have a bit more seating available in the waiting area since it was so large...
Visited Oct '16 to see In the Heights which was a really enjoyable show. Great venue, with platform staging, most of the seats ate good ones perhaps not the sides. It feels a bit like being in a big tent, but it has the edge over older theatres with things like a big bar area. Bar prices were OK £4.50 for pint of cider. Beware that if you step out during the show you might have to wait a while to come back in.
The Railway Children production recently reopened in a purpose-built theatre at Kings Cross. It utilises a real track and steam engine so was a definite must see. The experience is magical from the moment you get there. Ushers and staff members are dressed up as conductors and station guards and the bar area is made to look like an old wooden waiting area. The set while it looks simplistic is used very cleverly with the action taking place along its full length. There are two platforms seating areas at either side of the stage so there really isn’t a bad seat in the house. We were on platform one towards the end on the aisle and were able to see everything perfectly. The story is told from the perspective of the three railway children as grown ups looking back on their life and the story of what happened when their father went away and they had to move to the country. It’s a beautiful story which will keep the kids engaged and tug at the adults heart-strings. The steam engine brings a new dimension to the whole thing as well and its arrival will definitely excite the little ones. I honestly cannot recommend this enough for anyone.
We loved watching the Railway Children here. The theatre is so different to others. The seats are not particularly theatre seats though and it may be difficult for younger audiences to get a look at the full stage. It is easy to get to being a short walk from King's Cross Station.
This is all about the experience. The story & dialogue is fairly simple. The cast are fine, but the real star is the set, especially the real steam locomotive, and tunnel effects; great theatre. Quite immersive with the railway theme starting at the signal/box office. Bar area done out as old station. Recommended.
