4 stars means I liked it according to Google. True i did like it but there are different elements to the experience that need to be broken down. Food - This was my first experience at what supposedly was a fine dining experience. Being a first time i have nothing to benchmark it against. We went for a 8-9 course tasting menu. The menu had variety and depth. Technically it was very complex in its structure and i appreciated that from a cooking perspective. Flavour wise, i just expected more; maybe my expectations were to high. Definitely going to try another Michelin Star restaurant so as to have a benchmark to measure this against. My biggest issue was the size of the dishes. We had a variety of 9 courses and at the end of it, we were both still hungry. I read somewhere this was the most expensive restaurant in London, right or wrong, i don't know. All i know it was a significant amount of money and at no point should i have been feeling hungry and wanting more at the end of it. Summary: Staff, atmosphere, service - 5 star. Food Experience - 4 star Value for Money - 3 Star Overall - 4 Star
A restaurant should certainly leave the customers wanting more, but definitely not of more food! We went to Bo London having purchased the 5 course tasting menu for two people. We were amazed at how the first 3 courses were presented. The ‘edible soil’ was a strange delight and the wafting rose mist was simply enchanting. However these 3 courses were all of bite size and could be treated as one appetizer. We were deeply disappointed the fourth course was still of not much substance and we were not remotely close to feeling full. We certainly did not expect to have to go for a second dinner after a 5 course tasting menu. Expected a lot more from a Michelin Starred restaurant, considering this is a fundamental judgement error in putting together this 5 course tasting menu!
For a newly minted 1 star, we certainly expected a lot, lot more from this restaurant, both in terms of substance and size. The dishes were all flashily presented and innovative, did little to hide the fact that there was nothing backing up all the presentation and flair. They were all served in tiny, bite-sized amounts, each designated a "course" if you could even call it that! Half of them were average and bland at best, and the "main course" of the pork belly, while was quite tasty, left me little to enjoy as it was all served in 4 meagre sized pieces. We had to leave the restaurant still feeling hungry and wanting more food, and ended up at another restaurant. Our only comfort when we left was that we purchased the 5 courses for 65 pounds and have saved ourselves and our wallets of being charged the extortionate amount they were asking for their 8/12/14 course meals that the other diners were partaking in. This is especially the case for the 14 course meal which could have paid for a nicer meal at any other 1 or 2 star restaurant, with wine included, and better food.
Have been longing to go to restaurant for a year and finally paid a visit there. It was a groupon deal that brought me there which you could get 5 course tasting menu for 2 people with only £69. Well the food is interesting and as we are Chinese we are amazed that they way they cook and present it. The problem lies in the structure of the menu. Though it is like around 30% off of the normal tasting menu Which is not true cause only 5 courses are served and they are really light , you should expect people to be entertained with these 5 courses and without getting any extra food after finishing it. Everything is too "petit" and I doubt if anyone will be full after taking those. I am so disappointed with the service of the restaurant, given that the restaurant is actually awarded as Michelin One Star. The lady sat next to me kept coughing in the first 5 minutes when i came in I found it annoying and I requested to change the table. The restaurant is empty at that moment and they said the first "NO"to me. After having a look at the menu I wanted to go for the 14 course menu instead of the 5 courses and we are happy to pay more the net of course. The Manager told me "NO" and said I shall come back later. Is there any restaurant going to refrain customers from spending more?! This is peculiar and I can't believe that I was in a Michelin starred restaurant, cause when we left the restaurant, there are still empty tables!! We have been to quite a few Michelin restaurants over London, France and Hong Kong and this one is so "impressive" in it's service and drives me to write my first ever review. I think this is the reason why a Michelin restaurant have to go onto Groupon Deal. A restaurant having no other bookings but only Groupon customers and REFUSING CUSTOMERS TO HAVE THE STANDARD TASTING MENU on THURSDAY NIGHT proves how good this restaurant is. Far away from one star.
Theatrical food at its best, I was actually very pleasantly surprised to see that the food is nothing short of spectacular. I've heard lots of reviews saying that this place is gimmick, but nevertheless I was definitely impressed. The 'bed and breakfast' dish jasmine smoked quails' egg yolk on a crispy deep fried shredded taro nest, topped with caviar, served on a stainless steel tree was my favourite dish of the night. My date, however, preferred the Lettuce wrap, crispy vermicelli, foie gras and 'Abby' sauce, which was unassumingly rich and creamy from the foie.
It is definitely one of the best restaurant in town. The chef menu I had was just so special that you cannot get it from any other Chinese Restaurant in Town. Despite of the size of the dishes, I actually felt rather satisfied afterward. I highly recommend people to go.
We visited Bo London in early May, We have chosen to have 15 courses chef menu. The food are more interesting than any other Chinese restaurant we have ever been with really friendly staffs and excellent service. highly recommanded
