Staff were so helpful whilst I was booking for my family travelling from abroad. Josh and Susan in particular were cheerful at all times and willingly put themselves out to make my family welcome, not easy when flights were rearranged & plans changed. Thank you very much for making it all so easy and stressless.

We frequently enjoy youth hostelling as a family of 2 adults and 2 children . We stayed at Wye Valley,Welsh Bicknor on Thurs 31st Aug and Friday 1st Sept .Generally I am not given to making a fuss if I am unhappy with accommodation for any reason but I have serious reason to complain, about the road access to the youth hostel. At the start of the private road access to the youth hostel there is a small warning sign that warns of the narrow road ahead with a hairpin bend. After 20 yards or so I could not help but drive into a pothole which has damaged the sill of the front bumper of my ford focus vehicle. The access road is more of a track than a road and is not only steep and narrow but is has pot holes and a severe drop off on one side. Driving down this road is not for the faint hearted ,especially if one is faced with the prospect of meeting an on-coming vehicle after the hair pin bend. On the morning of our departure I made a polite request to a young female member of staff to ask to speak to the manager but was told that the hostel did not have a manager and that staff responsibilities were shared by all staff members at the youth hostel . I then expressed my concern to her with regard to the road condition to which she indignantly replied that "everyone says that, but it is not the responsibility of the youth hostel as the road is owned by the local land owner." The Youth Hostel association have a duty of care to those that stay at their premises regardless of whether or not the access road belongs to another party. The sign at the start of the track does not in any way prepare a driver for what is ahead and I believe that a serious accident could take place on this access road in addition to on-going damage to motor vehicles due to the road condition. Such a shame, as the setting of the Youth hostel at the side of the River Wye is so lovely.
