I stayed here. Loved the hostel, the staff were very friendly and helpful and the kitchen area etc was tidy and spacious. Great location for hikes, beaches and exploring the local area. Would definitely recommend.
Having stayed here in the past, I was considering staying again till I learnt YHA plans to cut down half the trees on their land, despite tree preservation orders to protect them. The trees are not causing any harm or damage and are healthy. There is absolutely no excuse for cutting down healthy protected trees, especially in the current ecological climate we're in. We need to be safeguarding trees and the vital habitats they provide, not destroying them.
Used to recommend this location to people but as they’re felling half the trees including hugely important Ash tree on their land for “aesthetic” reasons, despite tree preservation orders to protect them. The trees are beautiful and are not dangerous or dying. Discussting behaviour were meant to be planting and protecting trees not ripping them out the ground.nnIn response to your response this original review was made 3 weeks ago so if you care about the environment as you say why was the bat survey only done last week and not before the decision to fell the trees?
I have been recommending this venue to friends coming to visit but sadly no longer can now I’ve learned from local press that they’re felling half the trees including hugely important Ash! on their land for “aesthetic” reasons, despite tree preservation orders to protect them. The trees are beautiful and are not dangerous or dying. Such a disappointment.
A hostel in a fantastic place with great access to a great town and beach front. Rooms are usually to a higher standard when we visit than this time. Broken furniture and dirt were just unexpected from what is usually a really well kept, clean hostel
