Just off the high street and a gem of a local pub with a small restaurant at the end of pub, so we went in what I call the public bar the locals were very engaging and the bar staff were very friendly too. We had a drink and grilled chicken which was done perfectly with a side of chips and salad plus dips all of which was lovely. Big garden area split on both sides of drive. Small car park at the the top. Very dog friendly. I hope to return before holiday ends.
Despite booking Sunday lunch months in advance, our experience at The Red Lion in Swanage was incredibly disappointing.nnWe arrived early for our reservation, were shown straight to our table, given condiments, and ordered two rounds of drinks. When we went to order our food, we were told they had sold out of Sunday roasts and the kitchen had closed.nnThis was completely unacceptable. We had booked months in advance, planned our day around this meal, and understandably arrived hungry, expecting the reservation to guarantee lunch.nnThe manager’s response made the situation even worse. Rather than apologising and taking responsibility, he was confrontational and only offered us free drinks while he cooked more roast dinners. The way the situation was handled was unprofessional from start to finish.nnThis lunch was meant to celebrate the end of cancer treatment and the end of a family holiday, making the disappointment even greater.nnWe visit Swanage twice a month and will never return to The Red Lion. An amateur operation run with a confrontational attitude. There are far better places to spend your money.nnAvoid.
Lovely friendly pub, great food. Good location in central Swanage. Free parking. I Stayed in the single room which was very small and compact. It was clean and comfortable, but some upgrade needed. Internet didn’t reach from the pub. Bathroom was a decent size. Expensive for what you got. A discount on meals in the pub would have been a nice gesture.
This little gem is the perfect pub. The welcome & hospitality from Turk who owns the place was warm & friendly. The locals are friendly & knowledgeable of what’s going on in & around swanage. The food was very tasty & fresh. Lovely atmosphere also. They are dog friendly. We will definitely go back. Make sure you try this place. You won’t be disappointed.
Went in by myself for a Sunday roast. What can I say? Staff so friendly and attentive. Really lovely all of them. Then the roast.. I had the beef and it was very tender, veg was amazing, lovely crispy Yorkshire.... can't praise it enough, definitely one of the best roasts I've had and it a very good price. Just a great experience at a lovely pub.
