SEASONAL FOOD IN UNSPOILT SURROUNDINGS
Ye Olde Six Bells in Horley is a country pub oozing rural charm and rustic character. Our picturesque surroundings provide the perfect backdrop for savouring the hearty, seasonal pub-food on our menu, and the carefully nurtured cask ales and fine wines gracing our bar.

Book a table online and enjoy a spot by our roaring log-fire. Or make the best of the British summertime by eating alfresco in our pretty beer garden.

A little Pub history
We must thank the Norman Lord who needed a place to refresh himself after the long services at St Bartholomew's Church for Ye Olde Six Bells. Nowadays the services may be shorter but our atmosphere is just as refreshing. Ye Olde Six Bells has been an important venue in Horley for over 700 years, operating as an eating and ale house, which welcomed guests attending Court Lodge Manor.

Make a day of it
Our quaint country inn is reputed to be the second oldest pub in the country with origins dating to the 9th century. The pub gets its name from the bells originally hanging at St Bartholomew's Church next door.

The food was very good but the bar service is terrible . Staff either absent or chatting when people were waiting to be served ....I was not the only one who remarked on this. Once ordered the table staff were good .It is very popular so I guess that is why there are so many tables framed in the dining area. I enjoyed the food; there was a good choice and good variety rather than the usual pub fare The bar staff really do need retraining or better management though

Very disappointing. I take my father out to lunch once a week. Because the Black Horse is closed thus week, we thought we'd try the Six Bells. I booked a table but there was no one to greet us when we arrived at 12.10. We eventually found someone and were shown to our table. We ordered a sirloin steak for my father and a rump steak for me. According to the menu they came with onion rings. I asked if my father could have a mushroom instead but the waitress said they could only do mushrooms in cheese sauce. They could not do plain grilled or fried mushrooms. How ridiculous! When our meals arrived, although the chips were delicious, the steaks were very poor quality. The sirloin steak was small and thin and both steaks were full of gristle and fat. There was very little edible meat. I complained to the waitress who said it was impossible to tell whether a steak was good until you ate it (rubbish! You can see fat and gristle and general quality) and asked what I would like her to do? I asked for a reduction on the bill. She didn't say yes or no and that seemed to be that. A bit later I asked another waiter for the bill and found we had got a third off. However, I still felt that paying £22.70 for a few chips, some peas, half a tomato and a couple of mouthfuls of steak each was very poor. My dad has been ill and this was meant to be the highlight of his week. What a disappointment! Lovely pub in a beautiful setting but the food and service are not worthy of it.

Nice pub with a pleasant atmosphere. Bit pricey.. soup was a comically small portion for a fiver which was very dissapointing. The main courses were certainly a fairer size and well presented. Beer above average price with rather limited ale choice on the two visits. Overall recommend and it is nice but stop being cheap on things like soups.. it costs nothing to make and £4.50 for a tiny portion is borderline insulting to customers.

The six bells is always such a friendly place. Really homely feel and great staff. The food is always nice too. A lovely building with loads of character including a fireplace, and large outdoor area. Can't fault it.

We had a lovely Sunday roast. We had the Turkey, and the Beef and both were very good. The service was very fast and food came out in good time despite it being extremely busy, and us being advised there would be a wait for food but we hardly waited at all. Staff were all very kind, friendly and helpful especially Ty who looked after us and loved our little puppy Bear! Even though we're from West Sussex and it's a half hour drive we would definitely come back, it was well worth it. The pub is spectacular being 700 years old and the second oldest pub in the UK, it has so much character.
