Lovely old pub in a wonderful location. The staff are super warm and friendly. Didn’t try the food this time but it’s been recommended so I will do so in the near future. Beer is excellent! Oh and I’ve been asked to say: “bring back the cheese pie!”
Best meal I have had in ages. Thick chips where like mini roast potatoes in disguise, the burger had half a cow on it and the pie was full of chicken, amazing! Service was top notch and loved the whole experience. Well recommend a visit if you cross the woodhead. Thank you
Meals we ordered were superb. Scampi was crispy and tasty with peas and home cooked chips. Gammon was cooked just right with home made chips and peas with an egg and side salad. Very friendly staff. Very highly recommended. Will be visiting again soon.
We called for a lunch time snack after a long walk nearby. Inside was really nice with open log fire to warm us. Staff were polite and quick to serve us. I had a roast pork sandwich which was nice but was let down by 2 inch of string I found in it. I let the staff know and they apologized and said they would let the chef know. They didn't examine the string and I wasn't offered a goodwill gesture.
Been twice. First time with a group and the fish and chips stunk… the fish tasted off so not good. Came for a Second time today with someone who wanted to try it because the walks nearby are lovely - 45 minutes after seating us in the restaurant they never came back to take our order so we just left. The people who came in after us had their meals being served when we got up to leave. Not a fan of this place - should have stayed away after the bad fish.
Seemed nice but service wasn't great. Was a busy day we were told. We left before eating, got there and told to get a table and would come and get our order. No menu on the tables so my fiance went up to the bar to get drinks and ask for one. They said they'd bring us a menu. 40 minutes later we were finally spoken to. We left after getting fed up of being walked past.
Awful experience. Staff were rude, it took us half an hour to get a menu despite asking 3 times and when we finally got one a lot of it wasn't available. We tried to put an order in but waited so long to get any staff members attention we gave up and left... It's a shame because it used to be a great place.
Lovely country pub. Pleasant welcome. Good menu. The homemade meat pie mushy peas and mash was really tasty . Definitely recommend
Pre booked a table for 5 people. The kitchen and staff seem not to be talking to each other, they brought nachos with cheese on, when asked for no cheese due to allergies, we ordered stew and dumplings, and a pie, they came out 30 mins later and said they had no dumplings left. Then just as all the mains where been served they came out and said they had no pies left. At this point we had been waiting over an hour for our main course. Not Impressed at all. Only to get a 'sorry about that' and have a pint on us. Absolutely shocking when the place wasn't even busy.
Really well positioned village pub, perfect for the local walks around the reservoir and more. Good beers on tap, warm cozy seating, and authentic pub food, cooked to order. Especially worthy of note is the dog friendliness of the establishment with all areas ok for dog owners, and great catering of dog’s needs after muddy walks!
