A proper pub. Excellent beers on tap, friendly staff and a superb, relaxed atmosphere. I wish more pubs were like this, rather than these terrible generic gastro pubs you see.
Beautiful historic pub with atmosphere to spare! Good variety of beers on tap, including cask ales, and a very nice traditional pub food menu. We had the steak and ale pie, the fish and chips, and one of us, sigh, had a burger. For dessert, it was sticky toffee pudding with ice cream. It was all quite good and the service was excellent!
Visited for the first time last week and wasn't disappointed. Great atmosphere and a good quality pint at very reasonable prices. There was a poetry reading going on which both surprised and delighted us.
Just love this pub. No annoying screens or piped music. Good beer selection and you can usually find someone to talk to. It will be a shame when the day comes for Rob and Julie to hang up their hats but let's hope that's a long time coming.
A fantastic Newport pub, with brilliant staff, friendly regulars, great decor including a Newport County GLC shirt on the wall and a real sense of history.
The charm of this olde world pub is lovely ...Great pints and staff are friendly...Every so often a group get together to hold talks on the old Newport.
Just been in here earler. Been having a pint here whenever I visit Newport, friendly staff and a lovely Tudor-Style building. And of course the Samuel Smith drinks are great!

Great pub food and the beer is excellent. Nice quiet place to go for a lunchtime drink. Excellent friendly service and staff. Highly recommend.
