"Established in 1308. A conservation effort of 3 years has restored the building to the original fabric and layout of the early 1400s. Once we are open again in May 2021 enjoy a beer and open fire as a victorious Yorkist did after the battle of Tewkesbury in 1471. Thanks for the local support, that has helped the Black Bear to be once again an asset to the civic life of Tewkesbury"

Decent beer but really bad food: if a chef turns out a burger bun burnt black then you know that they really don't care. Burnt bread aside the other ingredients were cheap, greasy and cold. One of the locals mentioned that there was a new landlord; hopefully this place gets sorted quickly because it is in a lovely building and deserves to be a good pub.
Rude woman behind bar. Saturday afternoon. Four of us were hungry after a long day working at the medieval festival. We were waiting at the bar patiently. She said. I work here please move. Then she announced no food orders were being taken for at least one hour. Her rudeness and no food make us go elsewhere. We were welcomed at the Tuder Hotel.
We decided to end a long journey with a meal here as in the summer it's a nice place to come to on a sunny Sunday. I had my partner, her elderly mother and my 4 year old daughter. I am still upset that I put my daughters health in jeapordy eating here. I feel the staff were caretaker winter staff. Friendly but wrong for the venue. The food was ok for my partner chips and pulled pork and her mum tomato soup. That's where ok ends. ... My nachos were covered with cold/Luke warm chili. Yuk. And an insipid unidentifiable gunk. It was poor. But I excused it as ping ping poor nosh and my choice to eat there. But my 4 year old's food was a plate of food that broke all food hygiene regulations and to make matters worse I didn't notice until she had eaten 3/4 of her vegetarian friendly child menu pizza. The plate was drenched in rancid burned dirt oven/grill fat. You know the sort of thing that drops from a years uncleaned oven or grill. I felt sick when I realised the base of the pizza wasn't charred but was sitting in old dirty burned rancid meat juice. I complained and was told that the pizza is cooked on the hot plate that meat is cooked on. While this is an explanation I don't accept, because the grease clearly had dropped into the plate prior to the pizza being put in it ...? Hello ? A pizza that is listed as vegetarian friendly ? Not even human friendly. And to top it all off we weren't even offered a refund. Diabolical ! Hideous. DONT EAT HERE. Can you even imagine the kitchen hygiene that must be taking place ! ????? Criminal.
Dropped by for lunch. Asked staff if dogs were welcome informed yes. Staff made us both feel welcomes and included our dog. Enjoyed the lunch in the quite pleasant surroundings. Certainly would visit again
Friendly staff, clean tidy and welcoming. Good food at reasonable prices but some of the staff were confused about the specials on the menu, so we had to have something different
The place has character. The staff are great. The food is competitively priced. Had a great time. Guy behind the bar is a credit to the place.
Have just returned from Black Bear, waited one and half hours for a chicken burger, when it eventually did arrive it was cold,no apology from staff for delay, totally ignored, arrogant. Will not be returning for food,we have used it quiet often, will not be again
Food was good nothing special but it's not expensive so can't complain beer was nice
Maybe the oldest pub, and cheap drinks here but maybe if they increased the prices a bit they would receive a better clientele.
Absolutely an amazing experience at Tewkesbury festival
