Awesome place. Quirky setting in a double decker bus. It also features a lovely outdoor seating area, so it is good for every weather situation. The pizza was very good, it is the thin Italian variant. The service is very friendly. Definitely worth the trip down there.
Often gimmick restaurants are a let down in terms of the food, and service. Thankfully the Big Red is more that. Staff are friendly, and quick and the pizzas are tasty whilst being good value for money. Best pizza last I've been to in South East London by far. Even if you can't get into the bus you should still come.
Living up to the high standards of the Big Red Pizza Bus was always going to be a challenge that was unenviable. Wunderlust have managed to make the most of the location, creating a pleasant setting in which to serve a good range of drinks. Food was a little more average, I'd definitely recommend a drinks visit though - where else can you enjoy one on the top seat?
It's a bus! That serves pizza! What's not to like? Well, nothing actually: service is friendly, pizzas are super cheap and of an excellent quality, and the whole experience is very enjoyable. I imagine kids must love this place- eating on a bus is great fun- but it's a rewarding experience whatever your age. An oasis of goodness in the horror that is Deptford.
It's great pizza, in a great venue, I just wish it felt a little bit more value for money. The pizza itself is delicious, and just about OK in price nudging the £10 mark. But 2 quid for a can of Diet Coke? Playing on the fact it was basically the only decent place in Deptford, I think it's going to have to work a bit harder to keep customers now the area is livening up.
Having heard about a Big Red Bus that served pizza, I had to come and try it, I have also been wanting somewhere quirky to find as a venue, so gave me opportunity to come see it. It is a short walk from the DLR so if you are in the area, it seems to be the place to come, but I think there might be somewhere better to be honest. We turned up, told there were no seats on the bus, yet it was empty and none were reserved, looking at other reviews it seems to "be a thing" Trying to get an order or any condiments was a bit of a nightmare, as the waiting staff were always busy so kept forgetting, in the end I went over to another person's table to get it, not ideal. The drinks are silly expensive for the area, it isn't gentrified yet, so not worth the prices and nothing was on draught. The pizza's came and we'd both asked for an egg on top, usually you cook the egg, but we had to request ours to be cooked as were weren't starring in a new Rocky film. Also the toilets are a portaloo thing out the back. Good idea of a place, bad in practice it seems.
AMAZING pizza served on a real double decker bus. Freshly picked the herbs right there and then to serve with it. It wasn't expensive and also a great adventgure. Went for a wander there is a patio and gardens clean toilets, fairy lights and came across a shipping container with a comedy show happening. This really happened. Its always rewarding to get off at a Deptford or New Cross Transport For London stop. Alternative art and music seem to flavour everything around here.
On a cold March night, we made the trip to The Big Red and found inside the converted old bus... a bustling little pizza restaurant, alive with chatter and the clatter of cutlery. The wind howled outside but we were nice and snug, and utterly charmed by the bus itself. My veggie pizza was a slice slices! of perfection — crisp, tasty and just the right amount of topping — and the cocktails definitely added to the warmth.
This place had the cheek to accept a Saturday night booking and then casually direct us to the little restaurant NEXT TO the bus because they were so busy. It's kind of like booking cinema tickets and then having someone just describe the whole film to you instead. Staff were bloomin useless and somehow tried to make us feel bad about the situation. Do not use their misleading website to book, unless you enjoy eating pizza while staring at red buses. I'd much rather order Dominoes and eat it on the night bus. Big Red Pizza Con.
Family friendly restaurant in an old London double decker bus If you’ve walked down Depford high street before you’ll know it feels a world away from Greenwich just round the corner, but this eatery would feel right at home if it was in Greenwich or for that matter Shortditch, as it suits both a family-friendly there are colouring in sheets for the kids and students after somewhere for good casual dining. Seating is split between inside the double decker bus, from which the restaurant is named and a large covered patio area. It doesn’t try to be fine dining, but the atmosphere is welcoming and feels like you’ve been invited to a friend’s house. The pizzas are good and typically rocket-topped, giving you the illusion that you may be eating a salad – you’re not – it’s clearly tasty pizza with the classic array of toppings available. Other food on the menu includes pasta and salads, but I cannot comment beyond the vegetarian mezze platter has excellent bruschetta and the pizza. A great restaurant on the outskirts of Depford that is a welcome addition to the area. We will be going back.
