Had a lovely roast experience here recently. The staff were so welcoming and the food portions were pretty generous especially the discounted kids meal. I had the lamb roast which was delicious though it could've been much hotter. The veg and rice were nice but the potatoes weren't great, way over roasted and not much flavour. The plantain however was done to perfection! Overall I enjoyed my meal and I'm likely to return and recommend to others. The only real downside was that the tap water provided was absolutely vile. Immediately after drinking some, my mum felt extremely unwell and had to run to the bathroom. Ultimately, she couldn't enjoy her meal. We tried to order bottled instead but it seems they don't sell this. Lovely for the environment but definitely a flaw. Next time I'll be bringing my own bottled water.
Ibby thank you for your excellent service and looking after our table of 3! The portion sizes were spot on and the taste was delicious! We all ordered the lamb roast and my girls couldn’t get enough of the mint sauce! If I had to be picky, maybe better cocktail offerings would be amazing. Other than that, I’ll be back! Thank you and the lovely lady that served us the bill x
Went with my little sister for the Sunday roast, after seeing a lovely ladies TikTok recommendation. The oxtail croquettes were a hit for me also the waitresses were friendly and polite. As stated on their website they are not offering a Jamaican Sunday roast but a fusion of Jamaican and British flavours, and that’s what you get taste wise.
DISAPPOINTMENT! I had such high hopes. I have eaten at so many places. This is not a place to go to, maybe if you are someone who doesn't have an experienced tongue pallet, you might enjoy it. My meal consisted of; Crispy Squid, Oxtail Croquettes, Saltfish fritters, Plantain and the infamous Roast; lamb My friend had the same including the poor macaroni and cheese and 2 rum cocktails The crispy squid was the highlight of my whole meal, I did not travel down to Deptford for SQUID! The oxtail croquettes were nice. The fritters were more batter than saltfish. The sauce that it comes with was tasty, it saved the dishes. I had that sauce and the plantain with everything, it "complimented" and saved the starters. And the reason why I came down to Buster Mantis; the roast, which was RECOMMENDED by the waitress! The Yorkshire pudding was burnt, the vegetables were hard, and the lamb was decent. But what made me sick, was the rice was SWIMMING in the dark gravy. I have NEVER seen something like that before in my life, I could not eat my food, and I could not even complain I was that mortified. There was more gravy than rice. what would possess you guys to present that to people? Visiting many restaurants and food stalls I critique the food and I speak to managers/owners but I was too embarrassed to even speak to the waiter. I went to the toilet and told my friend to tell them to remove it. I wish I took a video so others can truly see the mess. I ordered such a big meal and left HUNGRY! I WOULD NEVER COME HERE AGAIN! I would have been more satisfied going to Mcdonald's and saving my money. If you are the Black Caribbean, African or Asian do not come here. Black/White British/European ENJOY!
Absolutely amazing Sunday roast! Great sides, and generous portions. I especially loved the Ox tail croquettes. Honestly could not fault the food at all. The service was also amazing, the floor staff makes you feel immediately welcome. One member of staff in particular, couldn’t get her name, was really good at making customers feel comfortable, she had a real “familiar” approach to her service which was lovely to see with other tables, as well as ours, left this restaurant very satisfied and will definitely be back! 10 stars.
Overall really enjoyed. Sunday lunch and rum punch were very good. Go try it! Improvements points: more gravy I could have asked but was busy stuffing my face, yorkshires were a bit hard again could have asked for new ones if I was that bothered, I personally would have liked a bit more spice/seasoning on the chicken to make it closer to Jerk than british but I appreciate it's a fusion so I'm being a bit pedantic most importantly it was cooked well and was a decent amount of it. All servers were good overall had to ask twice for the bill but not gonna keep me up at night I'd rather have the odd human error than be served by robots. Will visit again and update to 5 stars if more gravy/better yorkshires and some plantain would be nice. Remember to book. Go go go!
So as soon as we walked in we were greeted and seated but unfortunately that was the only good customer service we got. We went there for a Sunday roast as we heard so much about this place and we’re so excited to try them. There was three of us, we made our orders and waited. Two of us ordered tap water which took ages to come for some reason, my friends stater and cocktail came before our waters came. When I made my order I asked for extra roast potatoes instead of Yorkshire pudding as something is Yorkshire’s makes my tongue swell up. When my food arrived it had a Yorkshire on it so I asked the waiter different to the one who took out order if she could swap it and she said it was fine. When she came back she said that the chef said that he won’t do it as the value for potatoes is more than Yorkshire puddings. Bearing in mind only 3 potatoes were on my plate. We ordered mac&cheese with our food which came later on in the meal. The mac&cheese was awful. I’m a Jamaican lady and I cook mac&cheese all the time. I honestly don’t know what that was. The rice and peas was soaked in gravy that was clearly bisto, that gravy was not home made which was very disappointing. We only got one tiny ball of stuffing. When I was eating my chicken I noticed that it hadn’t been cleaned properly. When I pointed it out to a member of staff she took my mac&cheese and walked off and never returned. My friend got the roast lamb which she said was very chewy and lacked flavour. She ate it but didn’t enjoy it one bit. For £19 I would expect better! When we were finally given the bill by another member of staff she had a bad attitude because we didn’t want to pay service fee. She asked me why we didn’t want to pay cheeky and when I told her the reason she said “you’re funny my girl”. Definitely wouldn’t go back here. Just a ghetto Restaurant with bad customers service. Don’t waste your money!
Really lovely food and cocktails. Comforting reminder of Caribbean home food but some modern and surprising interpretations. Good value for money and good service too! Will definitely be back to try the Sunday roast.
Their food is nice and I will definitely recommend it but the place is not tidy at all and if they can improve on their tidiness I will remove this review. 1 get rid of that dirty mop bucket tucked away in the corner by the entrance 2 clean the windows for God sake! They are dirty . 3 Employ individuals who are happy to serve customers.
Best fish I have in eaten in a very long time - cooked to perfection. Great staff barman gave us an umbrella when we left as it was tipping it down. Super tasty food and great cocktails. Went for lunch, but can’t wait to go back in the evening.
