A great way to dip into the creative world behind the legend known as William Morris.nnThe fact this was his home adds another layer of sparkle. It’s not a huge gallery and just enough information and detail to better understand his background and iconic work/design.nnI first visited 40 years ago and WM is part of my DNA!nnLovely cafe on site and grounds to the rear. A car park too with a lovely mural a shame a bike shed blocks some of his beard!
This museum,/ gallery is dedicated to the Victorian designer William Morris spread over 3 floors it tells the story of this inspiring man. You can see many of his most famous objects.
A beautiful museum that is free to get in and sometimes has a free exhibition on. It has a lovely cafe to eat if you feel peckish, toilets, a souvenir shop and a lovely park. It is well worth the visit and the museum is a reasonable size. Also staff are friendly and always smiling and if you are not shore where to take the kids over the holiday i would recommend it.
Nice stuff to see inside, handy activities for kids in there like drawing and creating your own interpretation of things, also a trivia. Although not much to see for a whole day out. The gift shop had a lot of nice patterns, prints, homeware with the artists' designs at fair prices. The outside park is nice to sit in after though and it's right next to the house. Lots of nice places to eat nearby too, would recommend going out with friends here for a calm and chill spring day. However it does close quite early I'd say.
A lovely small museum set in a large park with one cafe in house and another nearby at the kids playground. Current Mingei exhibition although small is a rare chance to see work not often seen together in the UK, as well as to purchase work by some contemporary Japanese craftspeople. Beautiful setting for the William Morris pieces too, which have been put together in a contemporary display.
