It would be very helpful if this establishment warned of the parking charge of £100. Just a simple sign to remind people to pay for parking!! . The outside tables we re never cleaned while we were eating our midday lunch.Visited onWeekendWait timeUp to 10 minReservation recommendedNo
Beautifully maintained hunting lodge, built by Henry VIII and renovated by ElizabethI. Friendly and very knowledgeable staff on hand to provide insights into the use and development of the Lodge. I would also recommend a visit to the nearby Epping Forest Visitors Centre and the Butlers Retreat for refeshments.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo

A great building that has so much history attatched to it with Elizabeth 1st and Henry 8th being visitors or residents at some point . It’s been preserved as far as that is humanly possible to the point where the exterior timber beams have been painted the same colour as the rest of the wall in keeping with the times . The fireplaces have also been burnt out and replaced or refurbed , but to the naked eye the rest is as it was . Free entry so worth a look for the top floor views of the forest alone
Well planned, beautiful visitor centre with shop, information desk, public conviences and a small permanent exhibition on the ground floor. Shop offers ice cream including vegan options! First floor includes a temporary exhibition space and a large, winding, immersive and interactive exhibit all about Epping Forest that is perfectly set within an amazingly conserved building. So creative and interesting. Right outside the visitor centre is the Tudor hunting lodge, which is also filled with information and interesting information regarding the forest's past royal use. Kind staff. A great starting point for all walks around the centre of the gorgeous forest.
Nice example of a Tudor hunting lodge. Well preserved and open to the public for free. The chap there said about 80% of the timbers are original. It’s on 3 levels with some displays and info boards throughout. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area.
Despite it saying it opened at 10 am it appears that it was 11 am the day I went. It left me more time to look at the centre and appreciate the history of the forest. It was all rather wordy and perhaps not that suited to young people though it was very interesting. They also had an owl exhibition on in one gallery. Worth a visit.
Beautiful little place, full of history and interesting facts about the forest. Very worthwhile to visit.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
nice, very old building, with the decor of those times, you can enter every room for free, there is a large forest behind the property and many paths for hiking and sightseeing, I recommend wearing waterproof knee-high boots if you go in the rainy season, I highly recommend photographers for the whole family
