Lovely little hotel/pub. The proprietor went over & above to make us comfortable, nothing was too much trouble. Rooms are beautiful, the decor within keeping of the age of the property. Breakfast was delicious with plenty of choice. We stayed for one night but could happily have stayed for a week in this peaceful location Thoroughly recommend.
Fantastic meal today. We were there with my brother and his 7 month old and the staff, especially the landlord Richard, were so accommodating and excellent - we'd booked to be in the little snug room so that we didn't have to worry about the baby disturbing other guests, and the landlord offered to bring us a fan to keep cool and made sure we were comfortable. After an EXCELLENT Sunday roast I had the pork belly, can recommend, we realised that the room next to the snug was cooler we're currently mid heatwave. The staff were absolutely fine with us spreading out and dirtying extra tables, the landlord brought us a fan to keep the baby cool, nothing was too much trouble. The service was excellent, Eve checked on us exactly the right amount to be helpful but not overwhelming. We'll definitely be back, so glad this pub is in such excellent hands.
Tasty food, extremely well presented and an innovative imaginative menu. My only negative comment is dessert choices limited and after ordering the lemon tart , only to be told ten minutes later they had run out of this option, thankfully it was my wife who was left disappointed and not me crumble delicious very strange though early on a Saturday night and I heard a few customers being told the same issues regarding main and pudding courses selections Staying with relations in the village and we all left having enjoyed the food and impressed with the friendly service and ambiance of the establishment just a shame one of us wasn’t full to the brim.
Had a delicious lunch here today, French Onion Soup and a fish sandwich, my son had the mushroom burger and said it was really good. Will definitely eat here again. Dog friendly too, which is perfect
Popped in for an evening bite after a hot day and cycling. We had fish Hake was catch of the day and I had fish and chips but went for grilled rather than battered such the right choice- of course we shared Honestly one of the best country pub / hotels I’ve eaten at. You’ll need a car to get here unless you decide to have a overnight stay
Stopped by for a drink as it was too early for food the kitchen opened at 5pm. The pub is explicitly dog friendly. Staff were really lovely and attentive and we felt well looked after. Thank you!
Have had quite a few meals here. Beer is well kept and the food is really good. Only minor criticism is sometimes they go a bit light on the veg with your food, but it's all damned tasty!
The Wheelwhight Arms is fabulous The pub is at least 300 years old , done out tastefully, serving great food a small menu but delicious food . We stayed overnight and the accommodation was first class , the rooms were very clean and tastefully decorated. We were going to a show at the Forum in Bath , the pub was only a 5 mile journey very easy route in . Would highly recommend .
The staff member we spoke to was very friendly and attentive. However the food was atrocious and inedible. We had a chicken and mushroom pie and it tasted awful, the quality of the meat also seemed really poor. The mashed potato was gritty and tasted almost like instant mash. We only ate a couple of forkfuls before having to leave it. I had a smash burger which tasted ok but was pink on the inside so I was pretty worried after eating it in case I got food poisoning. The FDA says burgers should never be pink inside and you risk gastroenteritis eating one. We were the only people in the pud so there was no excuse about it being a rush in the kitchen. We did tell the staff member about the pie meal and he did remove it from the bill but we would have expected that as it wasn't eaten. The car park is right round the back of the pub down a drive and is completely unlit which is unacceptable especially for elderly and disabled people, it's dangerous. The only reason I gave it to stars instead of one was due to the friendly and attentive staff member. *Update after comments from Pub* The pie was tried by both of us and both us found it horrible. Your mashed potato DID have a gritty unpleasant texture and also wasn't eaten. The burger did taste good, I don't dispute that, however it was pink inside and after going home thinking back on the pinkness I was worried and read what the FDA has to say about pink burgers. There is no lighting on the car park at all, and when walking up and down from the car park there was hardly any lights. Also we only spoke to ONE staff member about the food, not the two you claim. You claim my comments are unfair but I also see from other reviews that others feel the same about meals they've had at your establishment. Maybe you were having an off night, maybe you weren't, it doesn't diminish our experience.
Clean, tidy, pretty, comfortable rooms. Friendly service, great with dogs. Food excellent and outdoor dining inviting, with good views. Possible to walk into Bath in under 1 hour, cross country. Lovely footpaths within easy access, following the river and wooded hills.
