I've found Kendal to be a lovely town with a charming town centre, but this shopping mall in the middle of it is an embarrassment. Barely any shops of note in the open units, closed off escalators. The vaccination set up on the top floor adds to the feel of a dystopian movie set.
This place sums up Kendal. Dead, no one is home and a total dump. What a pity for a town and its shops, that's it has come to this. Almost a ghost town. The shopping centre had one complete floor of empty retail units, with the main floor having just a handful of retailers.
I find it very sad,but this is a sign of the times. The only winner due to COVID lockdown was online shopping.fair play to those who continue to service people's needs by carrying on and let's give these shops are money and support otherwise there will be no shops and no towns to see and jobs to pay us.
I remember them building this back in 1989. They never managed to fill all the retail units even then. Now all the big names have disappeared, only a few shops are open, the majority are empty. Poor management, poor marketing and greedy landlords. Apparently they are going to revamp it...I won't hold my breath. The council have been trying to destroy Kendal for the last 25 years and I think they're close to succeeding. A pity.
Absolute joke of a place! I felt like I was in some bizarre time warp. Top level had more closed units than open. Follow the toilet signs to find they're only in use for college students, so you're redirected downstairs... just to find those closed aswell. The whole place is stuck in the dark ages. Parking is also only available to pay by coins... remember them!?
Beautiful looking indoor shopping centre but there are hardly any shops open so a waste of time. The council should be ashamed of themselves letting this lovely shopping area go downhill.
Only a few shops running, quess it's the sign of the time. People are friendly. It's such a shame only 15% of the centre used, enjoyed the all year Christmas Shop
The lift is useful, and the car park is convenient for shoppers. Clean and well presented the centre provides undercover shopping, and is situated close to the bus depot. Kendal is a lively town with a great main street, and river walks.
No easy access between floors, escalators being out of service. Lots of empty units, overall a thoroughly depressing experience
Well what a total White Elephant the Westmoreland Shopping Centre has become, currently its just like it was when it opened all those years ago, dozens of shops closed qnd 3mpty units, fortunately their all on the upper level, apart from a few around the indoor market and the Market Street entrance, they have even closed off both the up and down escalators so if you come into the centre from the multistorey carpark you have to either go back through the carpark to go down to lower level or go out into Market Place and all way round to main entrance on Stricklandgate, you 2ont be missing much if you don't go in there sadly
