The Smithfield Rotunda Garden is a tiny circular space with a circular path, benches, and Play equipments arranged around a statue of "Peace" in the centre. Jumping boards, balancing steps, and playground spinners are among the accessible playground accessories. The park is entirely covered in mature trees, which offer beautiful shade everywhere. The City of London Corporation does an excellent job of maintaining the lawn, providing a wonderful green space for those who live and work nearby. It is situated between Smithfield Market and St. Bartholomew's Hospital, two well-known landmarks in the neighbourhood, and is open from sunrise till night. It's a fantastic location for lunch, rest, or relaxation in between jobs, shifts, or shopping! The slope that descended to the underground station that formerly existed beneath the garden is still visible. An all-day parking lot is now available! The location was formerly a portion of the "Smoothfield," which was an open space outside the city walls where markets, executions, and jousting took place in the 14th and 15th centuries. A drinking fountain and a bronze statue of John Birnie Philip's "Peace" were placed to the site in 1873 after it had been designed as a public garden in 1872. No longer in use is the water fountain. Playground: Jumping boards, balancing steps, and playground spinners are among the accessible playground accessories.
I have been passing this garden for over three decades. I popped in today and what a gem. First, I love the mirror message. Second, the garden was spotless, which means the message worked or because today is a bank holiday. In one of the pictures, I noticed a red phone box, a red bus, and the old bailey! What you notice when you slow down, focus and be intentional.
Pleasant area away from the hustle and bustle of Smithfield market. A few benches, some greenery , and the Peace memorial fountain in the centre.
On a winters day, the garden looked rather sad, and unloved. I guess though better than the dark days of executions.
Pocket sized garden with relaxing and comfortable vibes
My to go place when I need a short break from everything. I sit down enjoying a tea in this small piece of nature.
Nice place to go and sit. During colder times it is really peaceful and quiet. In the warmer weather at break times do not bother totally crowded too many people around. Nicely kept and you will often see a gardener there hard at work
A lovely place to sit, unwind even have a lunch break. On the day I went, I personally felt it could have done with a sweep up a little bit of litter on the pavement. But, otherwise, a nice green space to breakaway to, from the office.
Smithfield Rotunda Garden is a quiet space of green on the edge of The City, tucked away just by Smithfield Meat Market. It has lovely shade in the summer from it's beautiful trees, including two Iranian Wingnut Trees, which are among the most significant trees in The City of London. It is a great place at weekends, when the area is really quiet.
Visited while doing the sights and checking out a few of the film locations that are all around the area. Small but unexpected garden next to St. Bartholomews Hospital and Smithfield marker and very close to The Old Bailey Courts A few pubs and small restaurants very close buy which make it a good place to take a break and relax during a hectic day and a few very decent places to dine just a stones-throw away. Well worth a visit
