Took the family out for lunch as it is a regular thing we do to keep the pub/restaurants going as these are struggling in the current climate.nThe service was fantastic—welcoming and very professional, especially from the lady behind the bar. The menu looked great with plenty of options to choose from. Three of us ended up ordering the same dish: the garlic cream chicken and one child meal sausages and chips.nnOur meals arrived fairly quickly, within about 30 minutes we were the first customers in on 28/11/25. Portion size was good but We were a little surprised to see the Chicken and sauce served separately in a small dish on a board, but thought nothing of it and began to eat. The wedges/chips were delicious, but the chicken was very tough—as if it had been over-boiled or microwaved. The flavour and texture reminded us of a microwave meal. We ate what we could, but my daughter had to leave half of hers, saying it didn’t taste right. Then my wife mentioned the same. I realised it was the chicken as I thought it was simply overdone.nnWithin the hour, my daughter fell ill, followed by my wife, and then myself. None of us have eaten since, and we’re still unwell as I write this review.nnIt’s a real shame because everything else was good. The location and parking were perfect, and the hospitality was spot-on. Unfortunately, the cooking was a major disappointment. We spent £60 only to end up ill, so personally I wouldn’t recommend eating here—but if you’re just looking for a quick pint, it’s probably fine.
Worst meal I have ever had, I ordered pea & ham soup it arrived like mush, so thick, you could have stood a spoon up in it, tasteless and cold, this was returned. Main course was even worse, Rag Pudding, suet in places hard as a rock, potato wedges, full of black bits, pale and undercooked, mushy peas were ok, thats the only thing that was. Should have been obvious really as we walked in, Saturday night, the place was empty, only us eating. Such a shame, seemed a nice pub, service was great, very polite and friendly, so no complaint there, but will never return.
Went for Saturday lunch after a trip to the market. The pub was very quiet and only 2 other tables had customers. The table was dirty and hadn't been wiped down, the service was nonexistent - we had to eventually order at the bar after waiting 10 mins. The portions of the protein were small - my gammon was very thin but the cheaper chips and veggies large. I know that pubs are struggling....but so are we. We wouldn't go again.
A lovely pub lunch, however it was a shame about the wait on food. Due to a mix up with our order, we ended up being served after a large table so had to endure an hour and a half wait on food. Was it worth the wait? Arguably yes due to good portion sizes all round and delicious cottage pie, arguably no as the hanger had well and truly set in by the time the meal arrived. Lovely Christmas decor and friendly staff, did the job of a classic pub lunch but wouldn't go back.
A lovely local pub / restaurant with good hospitality a very friendly landlord and a great food offer at reasonable prices. Well done ans thank you
