Victoria Miro Gallery

About

Welcome to the Official Facebook page of Victoria Miro, a contemporary art gallery with locations in East London, Mayfair, and Venice.

Story

One of the largest commercial spaces in London, Victoria Miro Gallery represents established names such as film and installation artist Doug Aitken, and younger talent including Conrad Shawcross; and also works with the estates of artists such as, among others, the painter Alice Neel. The gallery represents two winners of the Turner Prize: Chris Ofili, who won the prize in 1998, and the 2003 winner Grayson Perry, as well as three Turner Prize nominees: Ian Hamilton Finlay, Peter Doig and Isaac Julien. Now in its 26th year, the gallery ethos remains consistent: to promote great and innovative artists and to nurture the best talent from the new generation of artists around the world.

Victoria Miro first opened her gallery in Cork Street, Mayfair in 1985. The gallery quickly earned acclaim for showing the work of established and emerging artists from the USA, Europe and Asia, and for nurturing the careers of young artists from the UK. In 2000 Victoria Miro Gallery relocated to a sensitively converted, 8,000-square-foot former furniture factory situated between Hoxton and Islington in northeast London. With exhibition spaces on two floors, the gallery is almost unique in London for having its own garden, a beautiful landscaped area overlooking a restored stretch of the Regent's Canal at Wenlock Basin which has been used to great effect for installations by gallery artists such as Yayoi Kusama.

In October 2006 the gallery expanded further by opening Victoria Miro 14, a 9,000-square-foot exhibition and viewing space open to the public for special exhibitions and projects.

This space, conceived by Claudio Silvestrin Architects and executed by the project architects Michael Drain Architects, comprises three core elements: galleries, viewing rooms, and offices, and domestic areas which create a series of inspirational environments in which to view and experience a wide variety of art. Victoria Miro Gallery II sits atop a refurbished Victorian building, its sculptural, minimalist form creating a dramatic approach to the building from the street. Illuminating the south façade through its six-metre-high windows is Ian Hamilton Finlay's elegiac neon installation, The Seas Leaves the Strawberries Waves (1990). Inside, a triple-height staircase leads to the main space which, through floor-to-ceiling windows, affords spectacular views of the city.

In October 2013, Victoria Miro returned to Mayfair to open a third space which occupies the ground floor of a prominent corner site intersected by St George and Maddox Streets, directly behind Sotheby's in Bond Street. As in Wharf Road, the design was conceived by Claudio Silvestrin and executed by Michael Drain.

Followed this gallery in its most diverse building choices. The current space is even more spectacular with a green oasis at the back and multi-level rooms with their incredible artwork displayed so attentively. It's a real soul recharger and my go-to place at least one time per season.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo wait
Went for a Yayoi Kusama’s Everyday I Pray For Love exhibition. Amazing art and amazing experience. Thank you Victoria Miro for keeping art free for the public. The garden at the back of the gallery is really pretty and you can even catch some ducks swimming if you are lucky. Exhibition is free. Toilets not available. Street parking available Nearest tube - Angel
I made a visit to this art gallery because of the Yayoi Kusama exhibition. A new place for me to visit and a really good experience. The staff were nice to me and the building was interesting to explore. Lots of stairs to keep you fit.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYes
Went to see the Yayoi Kusama exhibition EVERY DAY I PRAY FOR LOVE and it didn't disappoint. The work is so endearing, playful and thought-provoking. And of course the Infinity Mirrored Room was spectacular. I realise it's a popular exhibition but I think people should have 1 minute to enjoy it with their own group or by themselves if alone... rather than with 5 strangers...it was a little awkward trying to enjoy the small space fully and I feel people would be happy with less time but more privacy. The Paradox Museum certainly offer that with their zero Gravity space...just a thought! The Ladder to Heaven and Bronze sculptures in the garden were a delightful surprise! What a beautiful space for visitors. I also stumbled upon the Moving Landscapes exhibition by Jules de Balincourt and absolutely loved his work too so don't limit yourself to just one of the exhibitions. The staff were all wonderful. I'd read negative reviews specifically about staff but all the encounters I had were with staff who were willing to help guide and direct and who were polite and welcoming so I will definitely be back and can't wait to see other exhibitions in the future! Edit: Both exhibitions were free which was incredible. Thank you for making the works of such amazing artists accessible to all. It was a breath of fresh air!
I went to Yayoi Kusama’s exhibition ‘everyday I pray for love’. The exhibition is fully booked but the gallery releases a few tickets on the day. The exhibition is well curated and the staff helpful and friendly.Visited onWeekdayWait time1 hr+Reservation recommendedYes
We saw a great Yayoi Kusama exhibition: Every Day I Pray For Love. The exhibition whilst on the small side was well curated and had a variety of media. Highlights included installations, bronze and stainless steel sculptures on the terrace and the Cube.
Off the beaten trek but a great space a canvass to enjoy art and installations especially the more flamboyant pieces! We didn’t have tickets for Yayoi but no shows meant we waited 10 mins and were able to join the next slot. A result! Pictures are of current exhibitors Jules de Balincourt and Yayoi Kusama.
Went to see Yayoi Kusami a second time at the Victoria Miro. The exhibition does not disappoint. I probably would not have paid for the exhibition but enjoyed that this is a free experience.
First time here for Yayoi Kusama exhibition. Great and interesting free exhibition. Enjoy itVisited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYes
Great space. Saw the Kusama and the Jules de Balincort exhibitions. Excellent considering they were free
