Lovely free place to park up, the resident ice-cream van on a hot day was a bonus. The shaded woodland was a pleasure to walk through, it was a beautiful place sadly rubbish on the edges of the car park, only improvement would be that the ice-cream van owner had a rubbish bin for people to put the wrappers, lolly sticks and, cans into to save the wildlife from future danger.
Good for walking in every direction, easy to get to straight off the A31. Good area for seeing lots of wildlife. Popular with dog walkers and some of which are not very responsible so watch out for the dog mess everywhere. Also be careful if you go up there in the evening as it can get frequented by doggers!
Quiet, scenic and a very nice spot to just pull up and park in. Just on the otherside of the trees I saw people enjoying a BBQ and as my brother and I made our way down a small slope we spotted a group of horses. We avoided the horses with the young'ins with them made that mistake once before and went over to the larger group. The black horse let me pet it, the others were not so keen. New Forest is somewhere I have many fond childhood memories and it was nice to finally go back and spend a little time there after all these years
Far enough off A31 to barely hear it, can get very very busy during summer months, nearly always ponies floating about there too. Mainly due to visiting families feeding/petting them.
Nice open car park and easy to find. Avoid in the the afternoons and evening as you may get a nasty surprise as it tends to be frequented by swingers and doggers!
If you like the new forest and walking, stop here, my wife and I stopped here for a break to walk the dog, we got lost and were walking for 2 hours !!! Never saw anyone else in all that time, we slept very well that night.
Great starting place for New Forest walks exploring Picket Plain and the western heaths
Lovely walk for the kids and dog, during a hot summers day.
Not much open forest round here, and A31 is a bit noisy.
Beautiful place to park in The New Forrest
