Just back from eating at Verdina and feel so disappointed. First time there and we were the only ones in the restaurant and it looked really nice. Ordered a glass of wine which never came, so reminded the waiter. One of our group ordered orange juice which never came, so again reminded waiter. After a while he brought a pint when half had been ordered. Requested garlic pizza to eat whilst waiting for main course, and it took a long time to arrive. The food was actually very nice, though the menu was limited. Ordered more wine, which took so long we were on the verge of giving up. When it arrived they'd got the order wrong and when we pointed it out, we were met with raised eyebrows and a deep sigh, as though we were being difficult. Requested the bill, which was passed to us in a very offhand way, whilst the waitress was talking to someone else. Was it too much to hope for a nice plate with a couple of chocolates on? I'd hoped that a new restaurant, especially an empty one, would have made a real effort to please its customers. What on earth were the staff doing - we were the only people there! The service and customer care were abysmal - no 'can I get you some coffees' or even any goodbyes and thank you. It's such a shame, as the food was nicely cooked. But I certainly won't be going back to Verdina again.
The food was good and tasty, and the prices are very low, however the service can be poor. I visited on the day before the Great North Run 2017 so the restaurant was full, & people were waiting literally 1 to 3 hours for their food to arrive. There was only one person working the front of house, a manager/water, & I don't know how many in the kitchen but I would be surprised if it was more than one as well. I waited an hour or a simple penne pasta dish.... A restaurant should be able to cope if it's near full, but something went very wrong that night, it may be a one off, I can't say... So if it only has a few customers, then the food is good & cheap, but if it's full , check the level of frustration on diners faces before you decide to take a seat...
Had a really lovely meal last night at Michelinos to celebrate a birthday...service quick and efficient the only thing that spoilt the atmosphere was the staff started to clear away before we had finished our meal .... rubbish was tied up in bin bags only 3ft away from our table. Storage cupboard doors were left open whilst talking to another member of staff ...not a very romantic view. Then we felt a bit uncomfortable when the kitchen staff joined the bar staff for a drink at the opposite table as we were still eating making us feel we should hurry our meal and leave. We will return to the restaurant as the food is of a high standard but a little more consideration towards customers eating experience would be appreciated.
A group of my friends and I decided Michelino's would be a perfect cheap meal to try, so pre-booked a slot for our group of nine. There was slight confusion from arrival as we were only given the 'Lunch Menu' and no drinks menu at all, but the staff were friendly and gave us the other menus without any hassle. However, only wine was listed on the drinks menu and, when asked, the waiters didn't know the prices of the other basic drinks. Then came the wait; it was a 40 minute wait for our 'Potato Skin Starter' from the time we ordered and, while the meal was lovely, was a little less than expected for such a long wait. We had to wait another 40 or so minutes for the other course to come, during which another table complained about waiting over an hour. When the meal did arrive we were rather disappointed. Those who ordered the pasta dishes found that their serving was rather small and those who ordered the pizza found it was bland and more pancake like than anything. Having paid only £2.50 we were a little more forgiving, but still annoyed that such a long wait had produced such a dissatisfying meal. Our other friends' meals were harder to excuse; one ordered the 'Sea Bass' for £13, only for it to be full of bones and not filleted, while the other's Carbonara sauce left an extremely off-putting oily residue in the bottom of the bowl and the bacon was almost purely fat. We would have understood the wait if the restaurant was busy, but there couldn't have been more than four groups there and we prebooked so they knew they would be catering for a group of nine. There was a nice atmosphere but it was all overshadowed by the long wait and poor meal. I doubt we will be eating here again.
We went out for a nice birthday meal me and my group of friends. We were put on a table next to the heater which was incredibly hot and most of us were sweating within 10 minutes, then there was an 1hr and a half wait for food, the restaurant wasnt even busy! Then one of our group asked for a gluten free meal she is gluten intolerant and they gave her the supposedly gluten free meal only for it to be taken away because it was not gluten free, thus giving her pain from what she had already eaten. for some members the food was a 2hrs wait, by that time most of us had finished, a poor performance from a supposedly 'excellent' restaurant, i will not be coming here again
