I will preface this by saying that Pete and Jean are lovely, friendly people. None of this is a reflection on their character, moreso how they operate as business. I ordered my wedding ring at the end of October 2023 and was told it would take 4-5 weeks. I hadn't heard anything by Christmas, so just accepted it would be ready in the new year. I had a phonecall early January from Pete to say my ring is ready, but his exact words were: "As I'm calling you, I've realised I've made a mistake. I've done it flat". I was going back to the area 2 days later anyway to shop for my fiancés ring, so said to leave it as it was. Arrived at Vault 88 and Pete brought out what he thought was my ring, but it was the totally wrong one. He then apologised and brought another ring to me.. again, it was the wrong one. He then asked me to show him a photo of the ring. He returned with the ring and said "it just needs a polish", then in the next breath said "no that isn't your ring, it's just the demo. I'll make it this week". Pete then looked through the invoices, supposedly found mine and said "oh yes I have it here, 18 carat platinum". My ring was ordered in 9ct white/rose gold so I corrected him on this. He assured me the ring would be ready by the end of the week. Having again not heard anything for a few weeks, I called to get an update. Pete said to me "Ah yes, the lord of the rings? The elvish engraving?" I said no.. the 9ct white/rose band. He asked me to WhatsApp it to him with a photograph to remind him. I immediately sent the message via WhatsApp, with no reply. So I sent a text to the same number the following morning, no reply. I called again 2 days later, asking if Pete had received my messages. He said "I wouldn't know as I don't have my phone, I dropped it and smashed the screen.. send me an email". I sent him an email, no reply. At this point, I was starting to get extremely fed up. I sent Pete a very long, yet respectful text, explaining how concerned I was and was preparing to ask for a refund unless he could give me some sort of update on the ring. No reply, and yes I had the correct number because I'd spoken to him on the phone. I called a week later, asking if he'd received my text. He said "Now you're asking a technical question, I haven't seen a text.." I then asked him about my ring. He said "I have it in my hand right now", then in the next breath he said "it's at the lasering place having the pattern put on", before again saying "it's in my hand right now and it's looking good. It'll be ready by the end of the week", we had this conversation on a Friday. It was the end of the week. I called again a week later, and Pete said "oh yes it's ready for you to collect". I then went over 3 days later and collected my wedding ring. I could notice immediately that it was dull, marked and the pattern imperfect. I tried to convince myself it was okay and thanked Pete, but left feeling underwhelmed. In the midst of all this, my partner had ordered a wedding ring from an unnamed jewellers in the same area, and it was ready in 3 weeks with no problems. I went to this place to seek advice, they looked at the ring and said "this is unfinished, the white gold hasn't been rhodium plated and there's gaps all over the place". I returned to Pete and asked if the white gold had been rhodium plated. His exact words were "No, there's no point as it just dulls anyway". I pointed out the marks and imperfections, and in all fairness to Pete he offered a full refund there and then. He couldn't figure out how to do this on the new card machine, however, so asked me to leave the ring and email him my details. I knew better than to do this, and he eventually figured out how to refund but gave me £400. The ring was £495. He then had to do a separate refund for the remaining. This was a 5 month long fiasco that added more stress to the wedding than necessary, I honestly cannot recommend Vault 88 based on this experience. Pete, despite being lovely and friendly, was disorganised and unreliable.

Pete and Jean are incredibly passionate, not only about producing high-quality, bespoke pieces but about the customers they serve. I first came across Vault 88, on my travels around the Jewellery Quarter, when I was looking to design and create an engagement ring. They were extremely accommodating with their time and expertise, an experience which I hadn't seen from other jewellers. The whole process from design to completion was so enjoyable through a constant stream of communication via email, phone and personal meetings. We both want to thank you for creating such a spectacular piece of jewellery, that is unique and personal to us. We are looking forward to visiting again soon for our wedding bands. Ben and Emily
Vault 88 is an absolute gem! Pete is so knowledgeable, down to earth and took time to explain everything to us about all of the different types of rings. His designs are absolutely stunning and I have had so many compliments on my wedding and engagement rings. The quality is impeccable and we also could not fault the service.
My stone came out my ring months ago, trying to find a jewellers to put it back was a pain. We’d had a new claw made as the old one broke and was too short. We took it to two jewellers on Vyse st who only did their own despite advertising they “mended” jewellery. We was passing Vault 88 and feeling despondent we called in on the off chance. Yes they could mend it, also made me a new wedding ring. Just bought an eternity ring and a necklace. It’s the best jewellers I’ve ever been in and thank you Peter for you kindness, humour and honesty. Thank you Paul for mending my ring. Despite travelling 1 hr it’s worth it, I’d recommend this shop to anyone, the service is second to none. See you next week Peter, thank you.
It was hard to know where to start when I first arrived at the Jewellery Quarter to find an engagement ring. After a day of going shop to shop, I was so pleased when I met Pete from Vault 88. He was genuine, honest and clearly very talented and passionate about making high quality jewellery in a traditional way. He has years of experience and you can even watch him make the jewellery in front of you. I felt confident in selecting Pete to design and create the ring. His communication throughout the process was fantastic and the ring was ready quickly. My fiance is thrilled with the ring and especially loves that she was able to watch videos I filmed when watching the diamond being set in the ring. We will definitely be using Vault 88 to make our wedding rings. Would highly recommend. Cheers Pete!
Pete and Jean are fantastic. We have used them now on two occasions. The first being 4 years ago when we had spent hours walking around the jewellery quarter trying to find someone that would make mine and my husbands bespoke wedding rings. We felt that many were over quoting or ripping us off, until we found Vault 88. A personal, friendly, family run business we immediately trusted their expertise and the prices were much more reasonable than others had quoted. Our wedding rings turned out excellent and exactly how we wanted them. We have since used them again this month to make a bespoke ring for myself, as a birthday present from my husband that incorporates an Alexandrite gemstone that I supplied to them. Again, they listened to our needs and budget and made me the most magnificent ring that I’m really happy with. We have popped back a few times over the years to have our rings cleaned, which is free of charge. We will always use Vault 88 for our jewellery needs and wouldn’t hesitate in recommending them!
