Today, i visited the Newcastle Job Centre with my limited English speaking partner. She has been in the UK just under a year and tries very hard to learn English. We were at the centre between shopping and social activities to see her job coach, whose name I won't post. She asked me to support her. As a purported professional, he was by far the most unprofessional, insulting, rude, oppressive, and provocative in a very negative way person I have ever come across. I have been in public services emergency services for 35 years. His attitude was rude and appalling. He insinuated because my partner struggled to understand his questions as he spoke quickly and her English is not great, that I was somehow influencing her behaviour. The irony is that his questions were pointless and amounted to nothing more than how her english lessons were progressing. I have managed to secure my partner employment, albeit on a zero hours contract....... more than he has achieved. My reason for being present was to learn about how such a contract affects univeral credit payments. We were doing the right thing. This mans insinuation was clearly that my presence was sinister. Now, if he genuinely thought this to be the case, being the absolute professional he is, I should be confident he will have submitted a safeguarding referral. But I very much doubt this will be the case. I have now spent a few hours trying to find out how a formal complaint can be registered, and not surprisingly, it appears to be almost impossible to register one. This is probably why this man feels he can act in such an appalling manner. In her native country, my partner has held some very prominent and important public service roles. She is in our country due to war in her own country, Ukraine. She is affluent, educated, and professional in her own right but has had to abandon her life to come to safety. She is actively learning our language and is seeking to be a productive member of society. She did not ask to be in this position. I myself have retired from my role in emergency services with commendations, compliments, and awards. I am so frustrated by this mans behaviour that i intend to pursue a complaint or even consider media. People should not be treated with contempt just because their English is poor, and they are migrants escaping war. If family, friends, and partners are unwelcome in interviews, then the policy should be clear. But it is not. This man invited me to sit down, then immediately became hostile. The most unprofessional experience i have ever witnessed from a purported professional. I assume this behaviour is a frequent occurrence for those unfortunate people who have to present themselves before this man on a fortnightly basis. I am sorry for you all. I recommend you record your interactions.
The agents are great here!... but the organisation of this place is astonishingly ridiculous! "The service for people" that employs about 3- 4 guards for the ground floor and then a few more for each floor further up... Are the visitors potential offenders or what this all MI6 action is about?! There are less guards in the Bank of England lol is there some national treasure hidden or the data base of unemployed people are so incredibly valuable? I think they may train secret service agents there, guarding the entrance must be almost as hard as US Navy SEALs training programme...
Arrived 7 mins prior to appointment. Stood talking about me being really early pointing and saying we’ll make him wait had I arrived spot on the time I would have been told I was too late as has happened before. Do people have no common courtesy has no one learnt anything from the last 2 years where anyone can lose their job at a moments notice. A lot of others would be extremely grateful for your job and would show decency to people during hard times. This place needs a shake up and root out all the rude incompetent staff.
Incredibly rude employees. A meeting that should have lasted 25mins, lasted one hour because of a man that kept being absolutely rude throughout it all. Staff has no manners at all.
I came here for my NI appointment all the way from Stockton-on-tees even though they have a job centre plus 5 minutes away from where I live apparently. When I arrived near the front there were a few unsavoury characters about, a few rough looking eastern europeans and a group of Africans. I went inside and was told to head upstairs, I sat down and my name was called, the guy was really friendly and my appointment was over in 2 minutes. I found the whole experience to be good it's just daft how they make you travel up to Newcastle when there are closer services.
I called to make an appointment and I was placed on hold for over an hour, when I eventually got through to a call handler she was rude and unhelpful. The Job Centre is supposed to be there to encourage and support people to find work, however I was looked down upon, treated badly, and treated as an inferior when all that I was trying to do was better my future. Thank you Newcastle Council for making me feel small and insignificant.
Simone elliott and Steve elliotts fave place two tramps
Staff are professional and helpful and explain everything very clearly. Slightly disconcerting the way you are followed everywhere by the security team.
After comeing for a meeting at specified time, had to still wait over an hour for to be rudely serviced by a woman who didnt know how to use a keyboard
Cannot talk to anyone by phone !!
