I had a good sleep in a clean and quiet room. Thanks to Ian and Anita on reception. Good location for the quays complex and re-developed dock area.nAbout a mile walk to the cathedral and main streets of the older town centre.
Last-minute business booking… wouldn’t return.nnI booked into the Travelodge in Gloucester at the last minute for a business trip. On arrival, I discovered there’s no on-site parking, so had to use the adjacent multi-storey car park in the shopping centre. Not the end of the world, but lugging my bags through the car park into the lift lobby wasn’t ideal, especially as the signage pointed me to use the stairs instead of the lift though I’ve since realised you can use the lift!.nnReception staff were polite and welcoming, and check-in was smooth. The room itself was very basic but clean. There’s no wardrobe, just a pole to hang your clothes. The room felt quite small and a bit cramped. The TV on the wall was absolutely tiny, my desk monitor at home is bigger! Watching anything on it felt more like a novelty than entertainment.nnNow the internet… £3 to access it, and then an extra £1 per device? Really? And even after paying, I got a whopping 6Mbps. I’ve had faster post. Honestly, two plastic cups and a bit of wax string might’ve been more effective.nnBreakfast was £9.99 and unfortunately not great. A buffet-style setup, but everything looked sad and damp from sitting under lids. The condensation had done the food no favours. I’d suggest skipping the hotel breakfast altogether and heading to McDonald’s instead.nnWould I stay again? Sadly, no. The staff were decent, but the rest just didn’t hit the mark.
Overall I would describe my stay at this Travelodge as average. The room was functional, and my sleep was okay, but it was basic and the toilet was not fully attached to the wall. Check-in was easy but I wouldn't describe the welcome as overly friendly. Location of the hotel is good, there are lots of nearby shops and eateries. Plus Gloucester Quays shopping outlet is literally below you. I may return for the odd night here, but I wouldn't rush back. I paid around £70 for my stay, and considering I paid just £54 for a significantly better Premier Plus room at a nearby Premier Inn the night before, I feel as though the offering overall at this Travelodge as not value for money.
Fabulous location to Cathedral and Docks, shopping for everyone. Reception staff were so welcoming. Always served with a smile. We had a great breakfast too. Bed was a tad uncomfortable but managed to sleep as exhausted taking in many sights of Gloucester.
The rooms are too thin. I heard every knock, etc next doo. I didn't sleep until around 4am and I had an all day meeting at work and then 2hr drive home... Sorry, I won't be staying again. Such a shame as the room was spotless and service was nice.
