I took my flute there for inspection and quote. Then I got an appointment for repair the the following week. I am not sure if I was lucky on this, because I had encountered much longer waiting list for repair work in JustFlutes before. I dropped off my flute at 9 and pick it up at 6 the same day. The work is good and the price is fair. There is a collection of sheet music and flute there, but I can't comment on that since I wasn't there to shop. Their website is really outdated. It is easier to just call them and ask if you need something.
I'm a very occasional, rarely-practising flute player, with increasingly dodgy fingers multiple sclerosis. Top Wind staff and owner I can't remember who's who, but all of them have been helpful over several years: not making me feel even worse for lack of playing, suggesting minor changes to springs etc to make it easier for the flute to resist my drifting-awry fingers, and often doing 1/2 hour's work for free. One of the reviews here relating to surly service for a wooden flute doesn't make clear whether the flute came out of it well. All I can say that my own flute Jupiter, 12? years old and I do very well. Recommend them.
Helpful staff, fantastic value servicing for my flute, tempting upgrades for the future. They took time to chat to us and are not pushy or aloof in any way. I would certainly take the time to return for repairs, Maintenance or a new flute one day!.
I visited Top Wind on a recommendation from my lovely flute teacher, to buy some new music and get a headjoint fitted to a new flute. All staff members were extremely polite & helpful on both occasions and Patrick kindly helped me out with a few quandaries I had regarding my new flute and fitted my headjoint to it for free! Nothing was too much trouble and its a lovely atmosphere to spend a few minutes while I was waiting. Wouldn't go anywhere else!
You mean there are only five stars available to review Top Wind? Not enough! Great service, my flute has been refreshed and rejuvenated, M continued beyond closing time to get it finished, everyone friendly and helpful, loads of flutey stuff to peruse and talk about! A great experience all round. Thank you.
OUTSTANDING EXPERIENCE: My experience is quite the contrary from the other reviews, which I have read thus far and this has compelled me to write about my experience as I never really subscribe to writing reviews as I simply just do not have he time. I was quite hesitant about going into the shop based on what I had read and to be honest, I could not have asked for better customer service than I had received from the three staff members. I dealt with the owner first and foremost, I then had interaction with the repair man, and then the female sales associate, who sold me some sheet music. Everyone, while not 'overly' friend, answered all of my questions and even entered into an engaging conversations about flute markers and legends of the past and most of all very professional indeed. I would certainly recommend this shop without reservation and while there are other stores in London, this has been far my best experience at a flute shop in London. I will certainly be going back!
I have just had my flute overhauled by Matt at Top Wind. He took slightly longer than he said but did an excellent job and the flute feels like a different instrument. I have had reliable and impartial advice from this shop over many years.
The staff at Top Wind are fantastic flute specialists, they removed a dent in my flute in under 10 minutes for a very reasonable price. I wouldn't go anywhere else for flute repairs, services or advice.
I took my beloved old wooden Boehm flute here for some new wire springs and a possible cleaning, but Matt the sour-faced repair man treated me like I was trying to sell him a bag of dead cats. "I play Celtic, not Classical..." I hurriedly explained, so surprised by his haughty and very disdainful manner that I wondered if I had forgotten to put trousers on . During my 5 minutes with this character he never looked at me once and when I took back my flute I knew that I would be cleaning and polishing it as soon as I returned home. Next time you're in there take a look at this negative gent tinkering away in that front room. Senor Arrogance... I would not have left my flute with him if he had promised a free repair and if it was the only flute shop in London I would gladly ride to Manchester and beyond to find a sympathetic person for this work. Adios "Bad Wind."
Knowledgeable and friendly staff who provided good advice on some new music and repair of my flute. Much better to visit and buy local instead of Amazon! Thank you.
