I play kebab roulette as much as the next fellow, but at the Times Kebab I wasn't sure if I was bidding on cattle, or ordering my emergency dinner. I'm still not sure what happened, when, after forty minutes I was presented with a bag of grease after a 'stout' gentleman (as my Granny says) seemingly decided what sauces I required. A small lamb doner for £5, I accepted the deal. There always seems to be a teenage couple wearing pyjamas waiting for an abnormally large order of doner meat and chips, with a burger on the side, and a cocktail of sauces. They were actually most helpful in assisting me to the front of the queue, which seemed to be operating in a swarm algorithm I was ashamedly not familiar with. I wish them every success. I must say I prefer when meat is cut skillfully off of the mould rather than hacked at, exposing fatty pink juices. The doner meat resembled what I can only describe as a scored rubber band. Imagine tissue paper was lining the core of a strand of meat, then is was laced with salt, then left out overnight before being heated rapidly in front of a hot grill. The result was zero moisture, zero flavour, and a Jacuzzi in my transverse colon.
