I needed a venue for 1 evening near the college. The room was very smart and comfortable indeed, from well appointed bathroom with good ceramic tiles and shower, to an excellent selection of both coffee pods and coffee bags. The mini fridge with complimentary water and beer was a marvellous touch. The pub and staff were welcoming the choice of ales was good and the food was excellent. An added bonus was the on site car par. If you're looking for a place to stay for a short visit to this historic town....the Wykeham Arms fits the bill. Dog friendly an added bonus
My friends and I passed by this pub like 4 years ago and we still speak about it to this day, we simply forgot the name! The ambience was 10/10, very quite and peaceful place. Super friendly service from the bartender and good ales too! A must-go if you go around Winchester's cathedral!
Simply love this place ! Right in the heart of Winchester the location is ideal. The team are fantastic, professional and very helpful. It's a Fullers pub at heart so the beer is great but if you like wine the wine list is also excellent whilst sensibly priced! Food, breakfast, lunch and dinner also very good and the chef often creates something a little different which is great
Just had possibly the best dairy-free roast dinner I’ve ever had. Very accommodating staff and kitchen who swapped bits so they were dairy-free. Brilliant service and exceptional food. Can’t wait to go back!
Great food and service while dining. The service at the bar before we ate was lacking...£7.30 for a small glass of wine which was chucked in to the glass with some spilling over the sides was a bit disappointing. A bit more attention to detail with the drink and how the bartender spoke to me would have been nice.
Mid afternoon of boxing day so , no dinner or lunch. After a walk, we decided to get some food at this pub with another couple of friends, including my 1 year old daughter and our firiends son 3 years. We went in and we found a table in a corner, making us and our children comfortable. We tried to order and the waitress told us to leave because that pub doesn't accept children younger than 8 years old. In my opinion, it was a very rude and bully behaviour. All other people were there to take drinks, and the pub was plenty of dogs, so a very informal environment. Rules are rules, surely, but personnel should learn how to apply these rules, contextualising. Hence, dogs are allowed to run in this pub, but children, carried by parents, are not allowed to stay. I'll never go back there, with or without children.
Very enjoyable stay at the Wykeham Arms. The pub is in a very central location but it isn't noisy at all. The décor of the pub is warm and cosy, with some interesting pictures and artefacts hanging. All of the staff we encountered there were very nice. Breakfast was delicious and you can have two courses. Giving 4* because I think the price we paid for the room was a little steep, but that might have been because we booked last minute. Have already recommended to friends and family and would definitely return!
Having grown up in and around Winchester I used to love visiting the Wykeham for food or a drink. On October the 5th I was in Winchester with my wife and 3 week old baby and the weather turned pretty filthy. We were near the Wykeham so I thought it would be a good opportunity yo have a bit of lunch and escape the rain. As soon as we walked in the lady behind the bar asked us to leave due to their distain of babies. As we prepared to brave the elements again with our baby we heard a lady patron, who was probably old enough to have a little more compassion, very loudly praise the bar lady for sending us on our way. We will never return to such an awful place not only personified by its staff but also terrible customers.
O.M.G. quite superb in every detail. Drink, food, ambience, setting, decor, service terrific. Best draught Guiness I've tasted on decades. I'd make this a destination pub if I were you. Definitely worth seeking out in a tucked away central lame in achingly attractive old Winchester. GO!
Having stayed a number of times previously we were disappointed by the breakfast. Although what we had was nice we were only offered tea or coffee and no juice. There was no toast and marmalade either. My eggs royale was made with cooked and not smoked salmon which was okay but not right.
