Brilliant pub with great choice of Ales, and plenty of seats inside and out under cover if you prefer. The bar areas are full of eclectic paraphernalia: look out for the Wild Hog under the football table ; he nips your toes!
Eclectic decorations and lively vibe make this a must visit for anyone new to Winchester. Nice outside space. Disappointing gin and tonic hence four stars.
Genuinely friendly hosts, didn't mind showing us round even though the pub wasn't open. We hope to have the chance to come back, interesting pub eclectic collection of oddities. The beer look on enticing us.
Absolutely immersive and amazing place. Could have spent hours in there. Will be back every time I go to Winchester. Also great prices and Black Boy Lager was lovely!
Stopped here for a drink and some chill time. Lovely staff. Board games too which were a fun time-waster. I qas recommended to come here after my Dad visited years ago and it was definitely a good shout. Thanks to the staff for making us aware of more tables around the back when we were about to leave thinking there was no space as looked full! It is a very quirky pub and definitely one to visit!
Great pub, unique. The boss has filled the place with all sorts of artefacts which make it a treasure trove of interest. Beer is great, much larger than it appears from the outside. Staff fabulous, a must place to visit.
Magical wee pub. Friendly bartenders, good local beer and the most amazing, eclectic collection of weird decor. Your eyes wont get bored.
You want to visit a real - if not somewhat eccentric, English Pub in Winchester? Then the Black Boy is your Pub. I have just walked every mile from London to Winchester and visited many, many Pubs on my journey and this has to be the one. You may be lucky enough to walk through the door to be greeted by the hirsute, friendly Landlord David. If not him then one of his young and helpful barstaff. The decor will keep you entertained for hours - see if you can spot the stuffed wild boar! This is a Free House and they have their own Lager and Beer on tap, plus a good range of ciders and local ales and of course a good selection of wines and spirits. There are 2 fireplaces and the Public Bars are warm and cosy lt's around 10C max outside as I write. The lighting is subdued and soft. Lots of areas to sit with friends or your partner. Even comfy sofas. The background music plays soft and low and wil take baby-boomers back to their younger days. As I sit here, I would say that the age range is predominantly 18- 40 something but throw in a few grey hairs as well. They don't do food but Tuesday and Thursday nights you can get delicious pizzas. Lots of locals in the back Bar always a good sign. The Pub is within 1/2mile of where the South Downs way footbridge crosses the M3 so pop in and rest your weary body. You won't regret it.op
Amazing quirky pub!! Delicious pizza on a Tues and Thursday!! Love this place!
Quirky doesn't cover it. Lovely pub and nice staff. All sorts of stuffed things and curiosities. Beer was tasty and we sat in the raised outdoor area overlooking the street.
